I would like to see a source about that. And like i said, it doesn't guarantee a civil society, it helps one. They would still be psychopaths if they weren't well educated, but it sounds as if you're saying that being well educated leads to that which isn't the case at all, it just shows that insanity knows no bounds.Originally posted by Lohman446Are not the majority of serial killers and true psychopaths pretty well educated?Il n'y a point de sots si incommodes que ceux qui ont de l'esprit.Comment

To me it shows that education does not "fix" the base problems as the statement "an educated society is a polite society" indicates.Originally posted by snoopay700I would like to see a source about that. That's not true, if the people who steal and stuff by choice decided to try to get an education or had an education they would no longer be criminals out of necessity. It does cure a lot of the problems, but it also does not guarantee a civil society.Originally posted by Lohman446To me it shows that education does not "fix" the base problems as the statement "an educated society is a polite society" indicates.Il n'y a point de sots si incommodes que ceux qui ont de l'esprit.Comment

You can send a kid to school, but can't make him(her) learn.Originally posted by snoopay700if the people who steal and stuff by choice decided to try to get an education or had an education they would no longer be criminals out of necessity.
Thus making "An armed society makes for a more civil society" hold true.
"educated" people steal also. Madoff and Skilling. Both were educated.
I guess if they put "morals" back into school education it would help tho.Comment

People are taught morals and still go against them. I never said education alone makes for a more civilized society, but it helps. Warbeak said it best, where it takes a mixture of the two. One or the other won't really solve anything completely, and either together they won't solve it completely.Originally posted by MANNYou can send a kid to school, but can't make him(her) learn.

If all know that I will shoot them for breaking into my home, then Darwin's theory holds true! We can't prosecute for what people believe, rather only what they act out. We CAN change what they perceive to be true and there by change their actions!Comment

Snoop, look at Leloup's post #8. This is the statement I called out as simply untrue and lacking in... well an educated viewpoint. I know your statement pointed out the truth in warbreak's statement and I realize I posted right under you.

That's not quite true...Originally posted by fierymartelWe can't prosecute for what people believe, rather only what they act out.
For example, walking up to me on the street and punching me in the face without provocation is illegal and for the sake of discussion let's say that the crime of punching a guy in the face carries up to a 2 year sentence. If you were to walk up to me on the street and punch me in the face without provocation because *I'm Greek* and you hate *Greeks* because of some preconceived notion or stereotype, it can be (and has in the past been) considered a "hate crime" without your having uttered a word about your beliefs while committing the act, or having even stated that you committed the act because of your beliefs.
If performing an illegal action for no reason at all carries a lighter sentence and is a lesser crime than committing the same illegal action with racially/ethnically/religiously/sexually prejudiced thoughts in ones head, then what is the additional punishment for? Granted, committing physically violent acts for any reason other than defense (in the greater sense of the word) is deplorable, but can you really punish people for their thoughts in addition to the crime?
*I'm actually Greek, I doubt that'd stand up in court as a hate crime, but it's an example for discussions sake*Comment
