There have been numerous times that stateside oil has been CHEAPER than imported oil, and yet the stuff still gets bought and imported. One reason is because the supply line due to the cost being high before never really solidified into a high volume line. So when the price went up overseas, the local stuff couldn't fill the demand. So instead of buying local it was still bought from overseas and just stuck on at the pump. And face it... the company don't care where they get the oil from because no matter what they'll make a profit from it. They know that no matter what we'll still fill up the car because we have no choice.

Don't hate just the oil companies. It's far more entangled than just that. You know some of those inventions that can crack water or turn sunlight into power or simplify something and make it LESS oil dependent that gets bought up by an "investor" just to get put on ice in the back of some storage room never to see the light of day again... Well the company got what they wanted, the guy got rich, though his invention never made the world a safer, happier, better place. But who the hell cares... He can have all he wants now..

Everyone wants to hate the oil companies? Fine then put up solar and wind and hydro plants.... then the greenies and crap don't want that done because it messes up mother nature... fine don't want to use as much energy? One sure way is to have less people. I mean I've yet to see a dog turn on a light to read the paper, take a shower, cook dinner, etc... Want fewer people? Legalize abortion, let those that wanna die DIE, put those on death row to death, etc... Oh wait... that violates some law I'm sure... can't do that. Everyone should do what they want. Well guess what. ENERGY/MATTER CAN NOT BE CREATED NOR DESTROYED.. IT CAN ONLY CHANGE FORMS. So at some point in time. Something has to give. Don't want people on death row put to death? Then you are going to have crowded prisons... Have crowded prisons, gonna have to have more guards... more guards??? More taxes... More taxes??? OH WAIT!!!!! DAMN !!! IT DOES REALLY AFFECT YOU DON"T IT???

Yes I got on a tangent. The point is this. It's not just big oil. It's you, me and everyone else that wants to stick their nose in and tell everyone how to live and what they should do. If you want to be pissed at the oil companies.. Put up solar/wind/hydro plants on your property. If you want to support one thing you got to be ready for the other end of it.

If you want to drill for oil... you gotta expect at some point in time it's gonna leak.

And yet again I'm reminded about how all these people want to ban CO2 because it's a GREENHOUSE GAS... You do know what you exhale right? You do know that greenhouse or not, you gotta exhale. So what? Is it going to become illegal to breathe? They want to tear down all the cars and go electric. Do you know where the electricity comes from? The socket right???? What about this lake ~> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Nyos

It's SAFER now, but it's still off gassing HOW MUCH CO2 PER DAY??? And instead of catching and collecting it it's just off gassed into the atmosphere. What? Is the solution to bottle it and bury it in the ground?

blah blah... this got awful long didn't it??? ahhhh I should get some sleep.

wow you need a chill pill. watchin' to much of the fox news there.

on a totally unrelated note: i enjoy when poeple think they are smarter then the smartest poeple on earth in any given subject area. i am 100% certian the fix for the oil leak will not be a list of McMaster parts.

Actually hot rod... I don't watch any news. But thanx for playing.

And you know that some of those "smartest people on earth"... yeah I guess Henry Ford was a Harvard/MIT graduate right? And lets see... Albert Einstein... Didn't he have a degree in astrophysics?

You have yet to figure this part out I guess.... Just because someone has a piece of paper that says they are smart... DON'T MEAN SQUAT! There are others on this planet that are just as or smarter than that don't care to have a little piece of paper saying so.

I guess since TK didn't graduate from (Insert Your Dream School Of Big Brain Power Here) that he's a retard.

Good luck proving that theory of yours.

I guess you've never seen real world engineering first hand... that's understandable. Most folks have to be out in the world for that to happen. I'm not talking about some "If A happens, then B will happen... So how will you prevent C from happening" in one of your little fancy classes that you overpaid for. I'm talking about "A happened, and your friend/father/girlfriend/brother/etc is stuck in a car that's on fire. How will you get them the hell out?" situations. Ones that require thinking that don't revolve around a piece of paper with black ink on it.

      DM

And I do love the fact... that you state... "I am 100% certain, that it won't be" bwahahhahaaa... now who thinks they have more synapses in their grey matter than the next guy?

        violent reaction ...

no one is debating henry ford and einsiten's academic record ... or for that matter tom kaye's. no idea where you are getting that one from.

suffice to say, poeple with far more experience, engineering background and education in deep sea operations and oil spill clean-up are working on the problem right now. i'm certain that they are doing there best to figure out a way out of this mess. i think by far the wisest course of action for those of us in the penut gallery is to let them work and stop yelling at them. its a technical problem and we happen to have hundreds of poeple who work on these kinds of things everyday, i think its best to let them work it out.

but for some, thats just not fun/gets ratings/boost post count.

bwahahahahaa.... violent?? Hardly.... But again they do say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Talking to you with any inkling of a hope that you'll finally figure it out is my insanity I guess.

Let me break it down a bit...

"no one is debating henry ford and einsiten's academic record ... or for that matter tom kaye's. no idea where you are getting that one from. "

You said, "the smartest people on earth" meaning that those folks that are involved are inherently more intelligent than anyone else out that is not directly involved. Is that not what you said?

I guess it's a good thing that you don't actually get paid to think.... Because those of us in the "peanut gallery" are in fact known to come up with some things that they may have missed... Want me to prove that? Here ya go... ~>

And yeah I did it step by step so that you could follow along since you can't seem to otherwise.

Now would you care to tell me why some of the "smartest people on earth" are asking us idiots for ideas?

so that they don't have to deal with them? common practice, esp when your popularity is low, to look like your asking for help from the peions. they are advertizing up here in MN about how they have 24 helplines and quick and easy ways to file your damage claim. why would they do that when we are litterally on the other side of the country from the spill?

image. now everyone in MN knows that BP is "being as helpful as possible!"

anyone who has worked for a day in a service proffession (which i have, before i was "paid to think") knows the suggestion box ... 99% bull ****, 1% ideas that simple wont work.

as far as "smartest poeple on earth" comment, lets look at that entire sentance: i enjoy when poeple think they are smarter then the smartest poeple on earth in any given subject area.

do you have 30 years of experience in deep sea search, operation and design? do you think you can come up with a better idea then the large group of poeple that do have that esperince? do you have the technical understanding of chemestry, material science, and fluid mechanics that these guys do? does your day job involve working with 18,000 psi of crude oil?

this is like you attempting to lecture einstien (you mentioned him first) on the relative nature of space-time. sorry bro, your a bit out of your league.

since i know the bounds of my own knoweldge and experience, i tend to keep my mouth shut and respect those that are experts in there subject area. but then thats just me.

Again... ya don't get it. It could be about image, it could be about "trying to help out" and yet it could be... hmmmm... we didn't think about that type stuff that just may work.

You can't seem to bring anything to a thread that is actually about logic and fixing something with anything other than, "they are smarter than you, let them figure it out" That's not what this thread started as. If you don't have an idea on how to fix the problem then why do you bother posting? Oh I'm sorry... am I the psychoanalyst now that you thought you were? Is it just because you love me sooooo much that you can't stand to see me say something without some remark?

Just once... why don't you actually ADD something to the discussion instead of just try to take away from it?

Lecture Einstein? Hardly... I'll drop this example to you that was a real life incident. A tractor/trailer tried going down a road that on that road had a bridge over the road at an intersection. Said truck/trailer got stuck under the bridge causing major damage to the truck, trailer, and bridge and in and of itself lodged in under the bridge and was unmovable. It couldn't go forward it couldn't go back, it couldn't be unhitched because the bridge held the trailer down, it couldn't be unloaded because the doors were jammed.

As all of these "smartest people on earth" stood around for hours trying to figure out how to get the truck out from under the bridge and after a few failed attempts at such one of the kids from the area that was watching the whole mess as he lived near the bridge finally was able to get "one of the smart people" to notice him and he suggested to the guy why not just let the air out of the tires to lower the trailer and allow it to be extracted.

Nothing like being one of the brains and get told by a 6/7 year old boy an idea that fixes something that you've not been able to figure out for hours on end huh....

Don't worry... I'll make sure and keep my kids away from your neck of the woods.

i thought the counterpoint was rather obvious. i guess i'll have to make it explict.

a tractor getting stuck under a bridge is much simpler and much more basic problem then an broken oil well head under water.

its ... a little bit more complex of an issue.

                        just a wee bit ...

more complex problem = more background and experience required to solve it. even KISS solutions (which it turns out engineers, despite popular opinion being the opposite, LOVE) require the background and experience to conceive, engineer, and impliment.

I'm still confused by the Einstein comment - he DID have a doctorate. Awarded in physics & math (I don't think they had the same majors we did back then).

You could have picked someone better, like Bill Gates. Or Steve Jobs. Or Michael Dell, John Rockefeller, Steven Spielberg, Paul Allen, William Randolph Hearst, etc.

                                Shenanigans!!!
every class AZ DZ driver knows to lower tire pressure to get under some bridges in north America.
yes trucks do get stuck under bridges but the anecdote about the little kid is hog wash.
