    And Kevin Costner
I guess the armageddon movie holds true?
We should call Bruce Willis too and get him on the phone.
I think Devilman has a point.

this friendly corner doesn't seem so friendly these days.

and DM, I'm aware of the physics of the situation, your remarks imply that I am some kind of hick and your grasp of all things physical is much greater than I could ever comprehend.

guess what, I'm an educated person as well. go fig!
      I have scored outstandingly on every test the medical people could fire at me;
and this is after having a 65 mph closed head injury.

but this is not about who is smarter than whom.
it's not about practical application of an idea to the problem.

right now it's about the people that created the situation and the governing bodies pertinent to this debacle.

they are the only players that have the funds needed to fix the problem, but both are too busy playing "it's not my fault" and "The Blame Game".

fix it first, you can cry about it in court later and for years to come.

I live in Florida , my REAL problem with all of this is cleanup , the folks in the Gulf states that made a living off the Ocean have more than likely lost thier way to earn thier living for probley a generation
The Leaky well is a problem , but they could have eliminated Many of the problems on the surface of the Ocean by being more proactive , basicly nothing was done on the surface for the 1st month
Wonder what will happen when the first tropical storm hits it ??

Lets just say you better go gulf fishing now if you ever want to again from Florida.
Also better sell your ocean front property now while its still worth something.
I see a rise in fresh water - water front property prices in Florida soon (the new ocean front).
Decline in tourism, economy gets worse in Florida, just when everyone thought it wasnt possible.

And back on topic... I don't think that HalB started this thread as a finger pointing or name calling challenge. He simply stated things that he wanted TK's ideas on.

Anyone who brings up the whole political side of it is off topic to start.

As for the lower tire pressure. My step dad and my uncle both lived their lives on the roads. My uncle did the 2 million crash free miles as a matter of fact. I'm thinking the stories they knew and told me were pretty close to the truth and since from my understanding/recollection this incident happened near Hopkinsville, KY near where I was raised that I doubt it's made up.

BUT, my point of the matter is this. You don't have to have a law degree to know when you are breaking them, you don't have to have a formal education in "culinary arts" to make something good to eat and just because you do have a paper that says you know how to cook don't mean that you can worth a damn.

If for an instant you think that the only people that will solve this issue or come up with a fix are those that work for BP or any other big oil then I feel sorry for you.

HalB... good luck getting the answers you want man.

                      I like the KISS method.

blow it up and implode the tube
                      Lets nuke it...

                      From wiki...
Soviet program "Nuclear Explosions for the National Economy"
-5 explosions for extinguishing large natural gas fountains

                      Storax Sedan
-The explosive device was lowered into a shaft drilled into the desert alluvium 194 m (636 ft) deep.[2] The fusion-fission blast had a yield equivalent to 104 kilotons of TNT (435 terajoules) and lifted a dome of earth 290 feet (90 m) above the desert floor before it vented at three seconds after detonation, exploding upward and outward displacing more than 11,000,000 t (11,000,000 LT; 12,000,000 ST) of soil.[3] The resulting crater is 100 m (330 ft) deep with a diameter of about 390 m (1,280 ft).

11,000,000 tons is probably enough to keep 18,000 psi under cover.

-so your worried about fall out...
Im thinking being that deep... it might not be that bad. afterall I live about 50 miles from 3 nuclear reactors that are contained by a pool of water.

okay... fine. nobody likes nukes... so lets just get a bunch of conventional explosives and go to town on it.
                      watch...

okay... so the Sedan crater was caused by something 200x that vid... but this was in the 40's. Surely we have stuff with a little more pop than TNT.

Bush suspended the Jones act during the Katrina crisis to help with the cleanup.

Obama shows his lack of concern refusing to do so.

There are skimmer ships owned by other countries sitting idly by that could be of great
                        help in the cleanup.

This crisis will negatively affect (and even now is affecting) the economies of all the states bordering the gulf.
                        Drastically.

                          no one said that.

quite the opposite acutally, the poeple who are experts on operating, and designing things to operate at these pressures and conditions will be the ones who come up with the solutions. they don't need to work for BP, woods hole ociangraphic insitute is there, coast guard deep search is there, probably they navy deep ocean units ... lots of poeple besides BP and big oil are working on this.

i happen to be a deap sea search and exploration junkie. I have long been an acolyte of John P Craven's. if you don't know who John Craven is, he's pretty much the most bad *** engineer of the cold war.

How long does it take those skimmer ships, sitting idly by in other countries, to reach the gulf vs. how long does it take to get a wavier signed? Under these circumstances, I'd bet the waiver could be cleared in a day, before the ships could even be ready to leave port.

How many requests for waivers have there been since the oil spill began?

How many, in total, of these skimmer and boom ships exist and how much trouble would it be to grant those ships waivers on a case by case basis?

How many of these ships have set sail, not knowing about the Jones act, and been turned away?

Bringing up the Jones act is meaningless political fodder.

Great questions ! Who is responsible to make sure these requests for waivers have been placed ? Yep it falls back again to the same pretender in chief again whether you like it or not.
