I've used a soldering iron... as long as you don't have "keloid" type skin reactions it doesn't scar up too bad. It worked for the one I wanted gone, so that's all the first hand I have, but I'm pretty sure it could be "burnt" off using a well placed shot of CO2.

look up Wrecking Balm. I had success with it to remove a small piece. Other wise laser treatments work well. But they will cost about as much as it cost to do the work mabey a more.

have you thought of getting whatever design you wanted inside the tribal outline?
i've had laser removal, and it sucks. expensive and takes several treatments and the healing process took at least a week.

I had a good tattoo artist do a cover up.

I had a heart with my wifes name in it and an arrow through it .

He put a dragon over it with carefully placed hatch marks etc and voila it disappeared.

Cover up work is the best solution if you're fine with having ink.

Lasers are expensive, painful, and not guaranteed to be 100% effective. Also, I've heard it's quite painful.

I would advise people considering permanent work be convinced for at least a year before getting it done. Especially first pieces.

Great example of the reason why you put your ink on paper, and not your skin.

While I love my wife dearly, there is no way in heck that I would ever have her name tattooed on me.
