Ok, me and my buddies just watched saving private ryan. A question came up; The scene at the end, where the SS guy and the American are struggling on the floor; as SS is slipping his dagger into the americans chest, he is saying something to him. Two of us speak German (niether fluently, not even close), but we cant make out what he says. It sounds like something to the effect of "die with courage". Anyway, someone please settle this argument for me, and give me the translation!

I have watched that movie about 1,000,000,000,000 times, it's one of the best movies ever. Now Black Hawk Down is there also. I have no clue what he says, I struggle with Spanish. -
I am gonna replay the scene today, then do it word for word. Was just hoping someone could answer it for me.Comment

Well, that makes more sense. Like I said, my german is extremely limited. Oh, and last nite was Marguerita nite, so that didnt help at all for translation. But, thats close enough. Thanks!Comment

I noticed that too. If i remember correctly they also used the same "shot him through the scope" type scene in the movie "Sniper". (eh it was so-so)Originally posted by oldsoldier
Ah, that shot was a hidden tribute to Carlos Hathcock.
They should do a movie about Carlos Hathcock...truth can be more interesting than fiction.
btw-i really liked Saving Ryans Privates...only thing ill nitpick on is the part with the sniper guy. He changes his scope during the action and shoots the bad guy. Correct me if im wrong, but in WWII they didnt have scope mounts that could do that *and* still stay zeroed in correctly. Just nitpicking tho :P

Joker, those online translators are crap. They tend not to take the fact that German and English don't translate directly into each other into account, and when they try to, you end up with "it is much simply simple for you, much. The part that I quoted him on was what he said clearly, and actually makes sense both in German and in English, without online translators changing the word order.Your head asplode!Comment
