Humm, I wouldent go so far as to say the civil war has NOTHING to do with slavery, just that it was not its purpose. The issue of slavery was very much one of the sparks that lead to the civil war (Dred Scott v Sanford, the esclating tension between establishing new states as slave or free, etc) Lincoln knew it would be either all or nothing and that there would be no comprimise regardless of the economic ramifications of destroying the south's workforce, thats more or less how the proclaimation came about. So yes the civil war did have something to do with slavery.

Well, im keeping it off topic, i found out recently, and found it interesting, thats near the end of the war the south let slaves fight. They passed a law saying a slave could join the army, there wasnt any bonus to doing this, however a lot of the slaves did join the army because they felt they were fighting for "their country." So if they fought under the confederate flag, i dont think it represented what most people think it does.

the Confederate Battle Flag (that exact flag is the Navy Jack flown on the masts of the Confederates Navy ships) and the Confederates flags represent freedom. Any affiliation with racists, neo-nazi's etc. is not endorsed by the southern states.

However, the idea of the Confederates was to split a young great nation, therefore I oppose the flag

If you're still offended by it, you should be offended by the american flag.

The current U.S. flag was made way after the civil war and has nothing to do with slavery. It may still have 13 stripes, referring to the original 13 colonies, however I believe that's merely to keep with the tradition of the flag.
