AO: We are back from the dead... again! After an 18 day outage, we are finally alive and well. Who knew how complicated updating software/databases from 2008 would be. I still have alot of tweaks to make, but my main goal was getting everything patched and updated to 2026.
Vbulletin 6 has changed alot since 2008 so we will have a ton of new features to dig into.
I got to see the coolist thing in the world today!! (B-17)!
Those are some great pics magking -- and some good stories Army -- thanks! I think the stats about how many were built and how many were lost are particularly interesting; shows the ecconomic power behind the military power.
By the way, there's a great article on the B-17 up on flightjournal.com (the website for the magazine of Boeing's Museum of Flight). Here's a pic from the article of a damaged B-17 that you could drive a jeep through:
Quoting the article's caption: A direct flak hit almost cut this 15th Air Force B-17 in two. Somehow, its structural integrity held up long enough for its pilot to bring it and the remaining crew members home safely (photo courtesy of author)
I got to stick my head into a b-29 once, her name was "fifi", wish I could remember all the facts but the one that sticks out the most was $1000 a hour gas cost to fly the plane. The pilot that day also said that fifi was used in the movie "enola gay". I think it was the confederate airforce out of texas that fly the m up here to jersey
Yeah i got to see that one about a month ago it was very cool. Yeah its the confederate Air Force that flys them but they had their name changed to the Commemorative Airforce. I think the pilot said that its the only B-29 left flying and it never got to see any action and was the last series that was built i believe he said it was originaly built or converted into a passenger plane. My dad has some pics of it ill post them up later. ARMY that was some great info on the B-17 what you got on this B-29?
Ahh crap i was just looking at the pics and the one i just described was the B-24 called Diamond Lil'. I've got some pics of both of them ill put the ones of the B-29 first.
EDIT: pic was big
*EDIT* Just found out that it was the last B-29 sorry i got my INFO wrong Again i should try writing things down instead of trying to remember them.
