My email is [email protected] Not much I can do now though since you are underage for owning a handgun. I think that Springfield Armory's Mil-Spec 1911-A1 should probably fit your needs the best. They retail for less than $600.

Anything by Les Baer. That guy just makes the nicest pistols out there.

If you an afford them or can find a nice clean used one, look into Heckler and Koch too.

Springfield's are nice and good performance for the price.

I personally have zero use for a 9mm. .40, or .45 is about the only thing I carry, aside from my only .357.

One other one you may want to look into is Para-Ordnance. Good quality, affordable, a few different styles, and, they have a DOUBLE action 1911. Very nice trigger out of the box on that one. If you don't like the idea if "Cocked and Locked" then the double action might be something to look into.

As far as safety training goes. Hell yeah get some. Get in touch with your local gun club. Look ing the yellow pages and start talking to people. Get some quality eyes are hearing protection too before you get your gun. Tinnitus sucks.

*sniff* You didn't ask me? *sniff*

I recommend the Springfield 1911 series. SA has also released a model that is as close to a WWII issue piece as it gets...and it's fairly cheap too.

BTW: US Federal law will prohibit you from a handgun purchase until you are 21, though it is still 18 for long guns.

                  well army you werent around.

I just checked the federal law, so i guess it is family memebers to the rescue (ironic as im rebelling, but oh well)

I have been talking with zbody, and his family runs a ginsmithing business. He has me about sold on a caspian. i figure if im going to buy one gun, it might as well be the best i can buy, as i want it to last long, shoot straight, and so fourth. I will keep lookion around tho, and look into your suggestions

I hate to be the the one to have to say this, but owning a handgun is one of those liberties that they make you wait a little longer for, gotta be 21 man (I went through the same deal at that age)

But if you are looking for something inexpensive you should try out a Smith & Wesson Sigma, Half the price of a glock for the same thing. You can get those in .40S&W (Stopping power) or in 9mm(ammo is dirt cheap). I have one in .40 and I really like it.

And there is nothing wrong with a revolver, I personally like the S&W 686 in .357 mag. and with all .357 you can also run .38 special and 38+P ammo in them(lighter load). I can also honestly say I can reload a revolver faster than an auto to(ought to be good at it by now, I have to carry a S&W model 65 at work).

Just to clarify he was studying in Chile these past two semesters but will be returning to the states in may, and yes the federal law is 21 to purchase a handgun, though with parental consent ownership or at least posession is legal at 18 depending on the state.

                                Just my two cents but...

You should see if you can borrow or lease the handgun you want to buy. See which one your most comfortable. Also, .45 ammo tends to be more exspensive than most other pisto ammo (9mm, .38 ect, ect,) that's something to think about.

P.S. Just discussed the 2nd Amendment in Criminal Law on Friday. Sorry, but you gotta be 21 to own a handgun. Its one the laws that congress sort of forced on the states (Brady Bill and such). Kind of a bummer cause I turn 20 next week and I also like to get one (20 has to be the most worthless age ever. I'm not a teenager but I'm not an adult. Oh well)
