Any one here ever done fencing?

I've always wanted to do it, but never really bothered to find a place. After watching the James Bond movie's fencing/sword fight, I comment to my boss how I've always wanted to do fencing. He replies "DUDE!! Me too! I've been looking for a place" So now me and 2 freinds from work are going to start it together, and it will be a good excuse to try to get in shape.

I used to be on the NJIT fencing team.

It's about 10 times harder than it looks

The first time you try it you will quickly realize you don't have a CLUE what you are doing.

I was only on the team for about a month or two, and I never quite got the hang of it, I never had enough time to really get any skill.

i heard that hardcore fencing players only hold the sword by their thumb and index finger. and that if their mean theyll hit you over the head and have the sword swing around and hit you in the back of the head where theres no protection. ever do that?

Turns out it doesn't look like any place around here is still in buisness. There was an online directory of 5 places. None of their emails work any longer. My boss is a wuss and is having his mom call the numbers to see if it's just an online problem. Hopefully, something will come up.

lol-I didn't notice that at first. I was wondering why you liked it better alone, then I just must have got bored of your post and skipped over the cow part.

I did fencing as my winter sport two years ago. Saber was fun, but I thought eppe and foil were boring as hell. I would have done it this year, but, it wouldn't get me in shape for lacrosse season, and fencing is at the time I would be working out, anyway.

I currently take fencing in a local club. I fight saber, and hav to say it ain't that much fun. After watching Zoro, I decided to join, and found the truth about it. If you can find a good challenge, its fun then, but most of the time you have to practice the simplest moves.

Also, with that thumb and finger thing, that does not aply to saber. I think it may work for epee and foil, but not with the new pistol grips.

I actually scored the fencing rounds in the olympic festival pentathalon. It's pretty sweet, but amazingly difficult.
