Xerces- When you start school depends on the state you live in. In Minnesota, kids must attend once they turn 7. Since no normal parent would want their poor kid to sit out half of first grade while they are still six, and then come in as a clueless new 7 year old the day after their birthday, the average kid will start at the beginning of first grade. Then, the AVERAGE kid will then spend the next 12 years in school.

Yes, a child is able to drop out at age 16, but doing so will land you the honor of working for $7 for the rest of your life!

What is your point, anyway? I STRONGLY believe in what I have said, so if you believe otherwise, please PM and I'll reason with you on why I feel the way I do.

Here's another issue: With no right and wrong answers, kid have nothing to work for! Having a complete and total lack of any goal is the plague of youths today. Apathy has taken over an entire generation. Back in the day, kids would hold rallys, demonstrations protests, etc. when something was done that was against their beleifs. Kids today HAVE NO beliefs! If the teacher says "You must wear a number from now on.", the response is "Whatever" instead of outrage.

The motto of the new generation is "Why fight when it's so easy to ignore?". Follow this new way of thinking to its outcome, and you have stupid, lazy, adult kids running a country in a few years! Ack! It seems nobody cares about these issues, though. Maybe adults learned a thing or two from their kids
-For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. Philipians 1:21

-Don't try to use your fancy smancy "logic" on me! It won't work!

-It is better to stay silent, and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

yes most kids will stay in school for 12 years, and many of them will still end up working hourly for less than they could be, but all i was saying is they are only required by law to attend for 10 years. please don't take my post to be anything more than what it is. i don't want to argue, i just stated what is required by law.

we have that at our school, its total bs, they only use it for when u use a computer in the library. and trigger happy, not all schools suck. look at places with even higher taxes, like taxachussetes, and ohio, they have some of the best public schools in the world. and trigger happy, are you seriously expecting elementary school kids to rebel against something? the political spirit is still alive and well where it always has been, college. you must understand high school is full of some pretty dumb people (like, the kid who sits next to me everyday during math, and keeps me awake with his dripping nose) but college is full of people who want to be there, and theyre usually smart. u obviously havent been near a college if you dont know about the rallys that go on there almost every week in every college.

when i live in Tn (k-3) we did not have any form of lunch cards or ids in my schools but when i moved down here to LA we had lunch cards whiler i was goin 4th-8th then 9th grade we get our pics on our lunch cards which now make them ids but they both have the same info (ids and lunch cards) which is student # and school you goto the thgings are mainly used for lunches and getting into dances at my school but at most other schools in my parish (county) they have to wear them which is dumb and they get sent to the office if they arent wearing them which is dumb we shoudnt have to wear the stupid things.... our school are becoming more like high security banks now a days.. my school is so lax and a great place to be.... for its 22 years of being there has had no weapons incidents and like maybe 8 fights its a great place!

joker, you have to understand, in some high schools in LA, they dont even allow you to wear certain colors. theres a reason why your forced to wear an id, theyve had problems with people from other schools coming over and starting fights or even killing people. they do this a lot in places with a lot of gang activity. theres a compelling intereest to do it.

halb- I'm not asking anybody to start a bloody revolt! Where'd you come up with that? I don't want demonstrations, I want to get rid of the pervasive attitude of "Who cares?" that's so prevalent in society.

As far as the pussy "demonstrations" that kids pull in college, they are meaningless! When is the last time one of those demonstrations resloved anything of widespread importance?

Productive people get things done by being willing to head things up. 99.9% of americans want to get through life being as lazy as possible (I think I might be one of those )

99.9% of Americans want to "help others", but they want to be cogs in the machine, not the engine.....not the planning, effort, etc involved in making true changes.

I AM ABOUT TO SAY SOMETHING THAT IS IMPORTANT, SO LISTEN UP IF YOU WANT TO CHANGE THE WORLD: Those 99.9% of people have money, power, skills, experience, etc. and they are looking for good places to use it.

If you are willing to DO SOMETHING, you can get finacial backing, the materials, the labor, ANYTHING. Just get a vision, draw out a well detailed plan, and pitch that at anybody who has the resources you need.

People want YOU to get something done while they play a tiny part in the process that makes them feel like their life has meaning. Let them play that tiny part, and you will have a fighting force to make REAL CHANGES for good causes.

Why am I telling you all this? I have no idea.......oh yeah.....demonstrations are pussy......that's all I'm really trying to say

hmmmmmmmm, helped stop nam, in iran its overthrowing the theocracy, stopped the child labor practices of some companies, etc. etc. maybe you should go to a college and see those demonstrations for yourself. these are not kids, these are some of the most intelligent adults out there. every major political change that has happened has begun ina college. where did the hippies come from? it was graduate students rejecting the materialism of society. once again, go to a college and maybe you'll see

Did you just reference hippies as a great movement that came out of a college!?!

Nam was a biggie as far as college demonstrations being effective, but that was a generation ago, now wasn't it!

I'd don't know why I'm fighting you over this! Your logic behind your argument being that the new generation is every bit as adamant about causes as their elders! That is just not true, and I think you know it.

Please stop inferring that I am uneducated! I KNOW we can debate WHILE being civil, can't we?

/me wonders if the ID cards also carry blood type info for post-school-shooting medical assistance.

Although on the more reasonable side of things, having a number assigned to you is a pretty simple matter of having a UNIQUE identifier for the school's database. I mean, bigger schools may have five Matt Smiths in a single grade. It's the same reason your state issues you a driver's license number or the US issues you a Social Security number. Unique identification, as opposed to the vagarities of just going by your name (as someone whose legal name is not the same as his preferred name, I know a lot about that).

One more thing...get over it. LOTS and lots of workplace environments require employees to wear ID badges. I've got one clipped to my shirt right now that has my name, employee number, and photo, along with a door access card, and used to have my Navy security pass on it too. You can't get into our office without a company or visitor's badge, just like you can't get onto a movie set or backstage at a concert without ID badges. Fact of life. So go buy a Dye or a JT squeegie lanyard and clip your school ID to it, and live with it.
