A couple friends of mine are very heavily tattooed. One of them has his whole arm done up with Christ giving the Sermon on the Mount. He was asked by a fairly conservative member of his church "how could you do that to yourself?" and his reply was "how could you NOT do it?". :) If it's important enough to you and you're willing to live with the consequences, I'd say go for it.

I meant my previous post kind of as a joke, just thought it was funny. I read somewhere(don't ask me where) that a large percentage of people regret what they put on the body as a tatoo. I don't remember the exact number but i'm pretty sure it was in the majority. My guess is because it was mostly peer pressure and got something stupid that they liked that day. Some people are just to stupid to realize how permanent a tatoo is. I say you only live once. I want to get a tatoo but would rather spend money on paintball. Those things are like 3-4 cases of paint. You can go to a tourny with that.

Oh yah, on a side note. I don't have any tattoos. I would be a likely candidate for one though but here's my reason why not. I change my mind to freaking often. Something that's totally cool one day would suck 2 weeks later. I'm just a dork like that. Will I ever get one? If my future wife is ok with it and we can agree on something... maybe, but considering I'm single and not even looking that's not going to be something AO will ever hear about.
For now I've decited to stick with piercings, a they are cheaper, b they are less permanent, c there is all kinda of jewelry you can buy to keep them interesting for years.

I say you go for it because unless reincarnation is true you only live once.

well, talking about the cppa, she obviously doesn't belive in reincarnation. unless shes some sort of christian offshoot that still claims to be christian. and if you only live once, isn't that more reason to not screw up your body forever?

2 words for you "free will" ... if religiously speaking (in my religion) god gave man free-will ... this free will allows him to do as he pleases without punishment as long as he doesn't break the 10 commandments....

who cares if the "church" frowns upon piercings/tats cause they're making their own rules on what "they want to represent" ... i say god gave me free will to be me, and i will be me ... he knows that i have a deep love and marking my body is just flesh, 100 years of an eternal life.

Can you tell me WHERE in the catechism it says that?

I've searched all through it and can't find anything of the sort.

I believe, and I may be wrong, that tattoos are ok and so are peircings, just as long as they aren't interfering with your relationship God. If tattoos and peircings are more important to you than God then there is a problem.

what's "catechism" ? I beleive the bible as the only authority in my walk with God. The bible, eventhough debateable is word of God and thus I'm obaying God by following what it says in the bible. NO pope, priest, pastor or otherwise has more authority then the bible, and that includes the cat-scaner-ism thingy...

I think RPK is on the right track, doing ALOT of research before going through with something. I have in the past been in her shoes, beam can confirm this and I think my decision was justified.

the catechism is a book that has, basically, rules and guidelines as a christian. like how some people think gambling is evil. the catechism states it is alright as long as you don't put something at stake such as your house, or something else you need to survive.

I think the way i said it before was kind of misleading, according to the catechism(ill find the passage later tonight or tomorrow) permanently altering, or disfiguring your physical appearance for your own personal reasons is a sin. when i said frowns upon it sounded a bit like their veiw on capital punishment, they believe in general taking another life is wrong, for reasons such as all humans are fallable, but they leave a little room for people who commit such horrendous crimes, and have no chance for reform(something along those lines)

Thank you very much. I just dont want to rush into something so permanant that I would regret it later (statistics say that 50% of people that get tattoos regret them later! ahhh!! )
