I agree with you on that RPK, and I think the catechism will bear that out as well. I really looked hard, but I could not find any reference like the one Xerces mentioned. I *do* think that such things if used ritualisticly or if used in such as way as to glorify the body over god are considered sinful, but I don't think that universally applies to everyone.

But I'm still waiting to see if I missed the reference.

Personally I think you're totally screwed in the head if you think piercings and tattoos interfere with a good, healthy relationship with God. I have both and I don't feel God loves me any less or harbors any anger for me doing it. Honestly, with as many crazy things go on in the world I think he's got more important things to worry about. I think self expression is paramount in it's importance in one's life, so it's too bad that ingrained puritanical views can sometimes impede that progress. It's truly too bad that if you like having blue hair, just because it's not the norm and conservatives think it's wrong, sinful or disrespectful, that person may never color their hair. Who cares? Make yourself happy, and tell anyone who has a problem with it their "number one".

This is all just my humble opinion, and I'm not trying to insult anyone's views or downplay them. What you believe is what you believe, and I'm cool with that. To each their own, ya know?

On a side note, how has the direction this thread has gone not violated the "no religious" discussion rule?

Heat - Yeah, that design is like the "band's symbol" for a group called Dream Theater. They usually use a burning heart encircled with thorns on their albums somewhere. FYI.

I get what you are saying, but what I was trying to say was that if tattoos and peircings in your life get above God then that is when you dont get them anymore and focus more on your relationship with God.

I think this got to be on the "religious" discussion because I said something about CPPA art and bla bla bla....

Well, I don't see this a religeous discussion. I'm not discussing my or anyone else's beliefs. I'm interested in the issue of whether certain relgious documents state that there is anything sinful about tattoos.

Being a Catholic myself I find it an interesting question. For one thing, I have found that many older religeous instructors take a lot of liberty with such things that aren't actually IN the documents. Also, the church continuously considers its dogma and updates it as it feels is appropriate. Ideas that seemed important 100 years age are now seen to be not so important. For example, the catechism has specific language against the practices of the inqusition, and acknowledge what they did was wrong.

So, I'm interested if this tattoo thing is real, or someone's interpretation. My guess right now is its interpretation.

There is a "no religion discussion" rule? That seems to rule out discussion on a large facet of many people's lifes! Anybody who blatently disrepects somebody's beliefs when warned is in the wrong, but to sidestep that issue by not allowing ANY discussion hardly seems fair!

Catholicism is a bit too complicated for me! I'd rather get my rules from the Bible, but it'd be interesting to flip through, and see what rules people thought up! Who put together the book?
-For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. Philipians 1:21

-Don't try to use your fancy smancy "logic" on me! It won't work!

-It is better to stay silent, and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

I say get whatever makes you happy. I have 3 myself, a rose, a hummingbird and a unicorn. And, I would also say that if done properly a tattoo does not look any more tacky on a woman than a man.

Mine can be seen if I choose and not seen if I don't want them to be. Good luck with your decision.

The first pertinent post on this page! Tattoo what you like.
I personally dislike tattoos -- or rather the idea of having one myself -- but hell, I am not you! I mean you could get a lightblulb tattooed on your head and think that's cool. Works for me if you are happy with it.

I believe you are absolutely correct in this ,
and in the end it's you're body.
Find a piece of art that you can be comfortable
with for the rest of you're life. Or design it yourself,
if you can't do it yourself, there are many highly talented
                              artist's who can design from you're idea's.
If it's what you want DO IT !!
Like I said it's you're body, We know who you're soul
belong's to. And I don't believe He will mind,
If he doe's I'm going south when I die.

I think females with ink look tacky at best, despite how pretty or how well the job is done.
