AWP is actually AWM, which is "Arctic Warfare Magnum". I have no Idea how it got changed to a "P". I think it had to do something with the beta versions and a typo or previous gun name, because even tho it's called the AWM on the buy menues, it's called AWP in consol.

As far as the comment about not liking AWP's, You gotta realize that it's a part of the game. If you watch any REALLY good CAL or CPL Clan, they'll whip out the AWP's as fast as they can.

My advice towards that is, fight fire with fire. Give yourself 2 hours on AWP_MAP and I guarantee that you will become a better AWPer. If you're interested, I have 2 great IP's for 24/7 AWP map. PM me.

The AWP is an overpowered gun for the game. It's being downgraded in version 1.6, thank god.

The AWP sucks because it takes very little skill, and makes for boring games full of camping. Games where people are willing to move and actually assault and work towards the goal are MUCH more exciting than boring AWP camping matches.

in the higher end CAL leagues and in CPL, the awp does require skill. most of the people i see knocking the awp are the people that either can't use one very good, or the people getting owned by the awp. i say learn to use it, or don't play.

yeah, its funny to see some kid standing still shooting, then some guy easily gets him with an awm and then the kid complains about it. if you just keep moving and watch where you go you wont get sniped as much.

you wouldnt belive how many times on dust i go thru the under pass with a knife while 3 awps try and shoot me and i get all the way across and stab them(for some reason they keep trying to shoot me with awp and not a pistol ) anyway id play but my comp randomly goes into standby and doesnt come out if someone can help me fix this id play(also its on almost everything not just cs)

AWP Takes very little skill? I resent that. Do you realize that you must be at a COMPLETE Stop, not moving whatsoever in order to shoot acuratly? That's assuming there's no user-side error and your own shots are on-target. Remember you're trying to hit a moving target(most of the time) and you must his the head or torso to get a killing shot.

1.4 dulled down the AWP quite a bit. Arm shots are now included with leg shots to leave you wounded, but not dead, not to mention the extreme sensetivity to movement. You used to be able to run right, then switch to left and use that slight lag-time to make a perfectly acurate shot, but that's virtually non-exhistant now. I can't do that myself, and I've only seen a very small select few who are able to do that consistantly.

Now given a noobie with an AWP is about as fun to watch as a goldfish, but If you watch myself, or any other very skilled CS player (not trying to brag, i'm not that good) that player will be moving around and using his weapon's long range to his advantage.

The problem with the AWP is it kills in one hit with a torso shot, against armour. I have no problem with instant headshot kills, those are great. Even a 90 damage torso shot wouldn't be so bad. But the ability to hit a torso and get a kill makes it overpowered. It may be realistic, but that doesn't mean it has a place in the game.

I think the AWP should be somewhere between the Scout and the level it's at currently. Somewhere in the 80-90 damage range if you get a torso shot.

I use the AWP every now and then, and I really can't stand using it. It's not that Im bad at it, but I feel like I'm cheating almost when I can zip off players that easily. It doesn't take a whole lot of skill to hit a torso with the zoom. There is no reward for getting headshots with the AWP.

Ya know if my team is looseing THAT bad, I just bust out an awp, turn on my awp scripts and got instant ownage against anyone.

I personally stick to the p228 and deagle, sometimes I'll use a ak of colt I scored the eround before.

Oh yeah and scripts are lame, the only reason I have them is cause I want teh teams unstacked... OR ELSE!!!

I have found very few ppl that can do much against a good awper

Wow, I didn't mean to start a debate over th awp. Personally I prefer the mp5 or the five-seven (you gotta love a pistol chambered in a rifle round) of course I am a very up front, bust in bullets blazing agressive type (probably why you see my name come up in the dead corner so much) but that strategy works well for me. If I do feel like hangin' back and sniping (ok camping, but in some places it serves a tactical purpose) I'll take a scout, just seems more fair to me.
