Question: How much retro design is too much?
Answer: This much. Making the centennial concept from the proud company that put the world on wheels look like a face-lifted 1969 model is, frankly, ridiculous. We have seen every feature and surface on this car before. Certainly, most of us have seen customized production Mustangs that were better-looking, more original, and closer to the original spirit of the cheap, fast pony car.

How is it that private owners with limited means can do a better job than Ford designers? This is simply a sorry pastiche of the past. It will sell, though.
High pointed prow:(that is the ark of the hood just over the front grill) bad for aerodynamics, looks tough though.

I could not agree more. I actually did not mind this at all. The tough look far outweighs any aerodynamic downfalls for me. The car has enough muscle to push its way around anyway.

      Maybe Ford

Low windshield is fine; thick pillars lose roadster look.

Seatbacks really high, enough to block visibility.

Hard line (talking about the top line from side to rear of car) makes a graphic to reduce rear mass.

This bumper blade (talking about the thin ridge going across the middle of the front bumper and cutting the lower fog lights in half) looks fragile, out of character.

      I agree. Nuff said..

Two different lights (talking about the split fog lights just mentioned) or one obstructed by blade?

Light pocket (talking about how the headlights actually have an indented pocket they sit in) produces drag, but round lamp is a welcome sight.

Roll bar (talking about for the convertible) looks wimpy and two low to be really effective.

      Big, brash wheel

Logo like gas cap, but is it?

      Taillight in three parts

Very high deck a good thing; picture frame around lamps not.

LOL bingo! Just what I said.

Indent in door recalls earlier cars nicely.

Full-length highlight line (top highlight line or bend running from front to back of car about door handle height) not interrupted by kickup at rear.

Wheelhouse bulges sharply separated from body surfaces.

Bumper face (talking about rear bumper) as plain as possible, home workshop style.

Like I said in my other post, blah! By adding just a little dip in the middle of it, they would add a lot of style and break up that brick look.

Hard line separates underbody from bumper mass.

      This is a good thing.

Exhausts through bumper a cute idea, but what about heat for plastic?

yes..Fast and the Furious 2 is coming out this summer..no Vin Diesel though..the actual title for the movie is: 2 Fast 2 Furious

but back to the 05' Mustang..I don't really like it, I think the retro-ness is too forced and J Mays keeps going back to the drawing board with all these retro designs and they keep getting more cliched everytime he does it. And for all you people out there excited about it. I promise you with a design like this you're not going to see Mustangs on car lots starting out at $15-18,000. This sucker is going straight for that Pseudo-boxster niche just like the new Z and it wouldn't suprise me if this new 'stang started out at like $24-28k....and there in lies the problem. It'll be too expensive for the people that drive mustangs now. I'd bet that most of the mustangs on the road are V6's of that $15-18k variety, people that want to look like they own a muscle car when really it's just a pussy cat. Ford needs to sell more cars to regain more market share back, not sell less and lose it.

                    well i really like it...
i just hope that they try to keep the price down...as mentioned above...
guess i better start saving my pennies

as far as the lightning and gt40...
                    well a man can dream...
and did you read about that supercooler thing they did on the lightning
50 extra hp for 30sec! on top of 500 already... geez
sounds like the classic speed burst on any racing video game
                    hehe

                    one last thing...
fast and the furious was one of the worst car movies ive ever seen; imports are just wannabe muscle cars...
i don't understand how any upstanding american could possibly like them more than a beautiful V8
torque.. people... know what im saying...

I can't even imagine what the torque steer with a FWD V8 would be like! Also, good luck working on that shoe-horned LS1!
