I would have to say a ricer is a car that is all show and no go. simple as that.
Ricers?

i personally drive a true ricer, made in japan (not one of those hondas manufactured by chevy or ford or whoever)
i have a 1991 toyota mr2, it is the naturally aspirated model (non-turbo) and it has the body kit and a sweet scoop that comes over the top of the car b/c the motor is in the back, nice white rims low profile tires, really turns heads.
i have not and will not put on a "performance exhaust" or one of the dumb wings, it has the stock one and that is good enough. i personally know it isn't that fast but all the hondaboys that throw on their exhausts and think they are cool just can't keep up.

how often to imports race domestics... not to often. i use to be out at the street races 2 nights a week watching poeple race. and i rarely saw imports racing domestics they mostly stick to their own kind.i personally like imports they are fun to work on and i LIKE the look of them. as soo as i graduate from high school im buying a 300zx tt or trans am still havent decided. but still tricking out imports is just another trend or type of style.giblit

I dont like ricers. They just take crappy cars *cough* civics. And put all exterior/apperance mods on them, no performance. We have this kid at our school, he took a civic, got the interior all redone (leather, neon lights, the works) got this custom paint crap and "ill-noiz" rides tagged on the back. Got 2 of the trash-can mufflers (only one actully is hooked up...) Of course got a big wing, got ground effects, cheep rims etc etc... And my friends 87 (yellow) buick can kick the **** outa it... I also know of a guy who has a riced out eclipse... but he has a turbo charger in his trunk. (and by in his trunk i mean sitting there in the box, uninstalled)

I'll start by saying the more time I spend on the planet, the easier it is for me to say, "To each his (their?) own." I used to define rice as all show and no go (as someone else does). However, I noticed that there are quite a few people who take time and care to make sure their cosmetic changes look decent and are high quality. The time and money they put into their projects is too great for me to just say, "Ooh, that's rice" when I see them. I think my definition of rice is now "all show, no go, and a half-assed job to boot."
Those are the people who cut their springs, throw on a Folger's muffler (if the rest of the exhaust is restrictive, what's a new muffler going to do?), a new intake (sorry, but a 2-3% increase in HP is insignificant in my book), a wing or other body parts that have been primed but not painted, or fake items (like the aforementioned fake brakes). These are the people who put their car in neutral at a stoplight so they can roll back and look like they have a manual tranny. These are the people who think bigger is better when it comes to wheels, failing to realize that when it comes to handling, bigger is NOT better. Or worse, these are the people who spend thousands on their car and still have steel wheels.
To provide a paintball analogy, we don't bag on people who spend hundreds of dollars on nice milling and anodizing, even though this does nothing to increase their marker's "performance". But if someone takes a Sharpie to their body (unless it's Tom's autograph), what kind of reaction will they get? They'll probably get scorned for the rest of their AO existence.

The thing I hate the most is when they paint racing stripes on their car, BUT THEY ARE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE!!! These stupid people look at European magazines and they see stripes on the passenger side. Well, in europe, their drivers side is on our passenger side, so in essence, they have them on their driver side. Little rice boys see this and put a fat stripe on their passenger side, not knowing that in racing, the stripes either go over the driver side, or the middle. Jeez! I have actually seen this frst hand. Sad. And wings, ooooooo....I HATE 'EM!!! Especially when they serve NO purpose, when they are just there for looks. GRRRRR........

If by "good enough" you mean serves no purpose, then I totally agree with youOriginally posted by thereal_JT
(about the wing)it has the stock one and that is good enough.

ricers are people who don't know what they are doing when tuning a car. It can be a civic owner... to a mustang owner, doesn't matter.
We've all seen that mustang video on here, "yeah, my mustang has a rotary piston turbo.... runs 11's" or whatever he said, ricer, and a mustang owner.
My friend just got a cavalier, and he has a body kit and eurolights and all that junk, I tell him it will be better if he takes the lights off at least, but to each their own.
BUT... he has the performance to back it up. He has a 2.4 litre pontiac inline-4, with a performance head, intake, headers. but the performance is really all in the head.
It's good enough to bring him 14 quarter miles, which I've seen him do, so thumbs up to him
now if I can get my honda at least into the 14's i might be satisfied as well....

I don't know what gave you the idea that even maybe honda was manufactured by ford or chevy, but theyre not. the majority of honda's are manufactured on u.s. soil though.Originally posted by thereal_JT

I dont know about you guys, but it really sucks being in high school at the moment... all the chicks think ricer's cars are sooooooooooooooo cool. Heh glad to come here and see that me and my immidiate circle of friends are not the only ones who seem to reaize that if you have a crappy car, keep it that way, its better than rice.

i dont mind them for the most part. i find enormous non-functioning wings to look silly, but they dont bother me at all. in fact, i wish people made stuff for protoges too. if only i had bought a civic. oh well, my mazda is good enough for me.Comment

On my work today, I saw a trailer full of ricers. I think that they were mostly Eclipses. They also had that awful splash and brite colored paint job. I saw them going towards the location of the LA Auto Show, which was kind of wierd that it ended yesterday. lol

Well, what if the viper was as modified as the civic? Then we'd have a different story. I like some muscle cars, and some imports. I took to the grey area since both sides have great cars.Originally posted by giblit
