I don't know....

I'm pretty sure civic si's, and integra and civic type-r's were built for racing, maybe not drag racing in particular.

And there are cars from other import companies that were built for racing too, like a eclipse gsx, well im sick and I can't think of anymore.

I'm sure you don't purchase a type-r for a grocery getter.

And regular civic and integras have almost similar chassis to the type-r's, type-r's and stuff just have a more tweaked suspension system and engine, so they were always meant to either be a daily driving grocery getter, or a car to build for racing

yes you are so right, I don't get these guys who seen these videos of civics beating supercars and then thinking imports are the best.

The people with those kind of civics are pushing their cars to the max, and without much knowledge of the extensive tuning to the car, it will not be a bit reliable.

There are so many people with some very fast civics and integras nowadays, especially at honda-tech.com.... but usually the car can only be built for a certain type of racing. While a civic could possibly be a 12 second car, a 12 second civic will not be a good circuit car without reconfiguring the civic, while a viper will go fast in a straight line and be totally ready for any other kind of racing. And these beyond normal civics usually require a lot more maintenance than a stock viper.

I wish that it would just click in the minds of these other people, that its the owner, not the car.

Imports? Smoking a Viper? Check out the Audi RS4. Only a half-second slower to 100 than a Viper (real world testing, not manufacturers hypothetical claims). Tests are from a couple years ago. Did I mention it's a station wagon? Talk about the ultimate street-sleeper grocery-getter!

The other thing about most compact cars that can "smoke" a Viper is they are probably not very good on the street. I'd much rather have a fun-to-drive daily driver (read: German!)than a car that can't even properly idle. I'd take a 25-year old diesel Rabbit than almost all of the current Asian offerings.

They aren't hated, they're usually laughed at.

For the simple reason they have their priorities in the wrong place. First you're supposed to make your car fast. ONLY then do you make it pretty.

Basically they tend to be all show and no go.
