Squarebobhunchback, Yea I love listening to them old guys. They were the original "Rappers". They got them raps going all the time. This Radio has the Weather features. Real nice when traveling. It even will alarm if they issue a warning and even cut the whole thing on if there is one. Also find it nice for listening out for a traffic problem up ahead. I do not think I have even keyed the mic up yet for that matter. Also I have run into stretches of road where I have no cel service. So it fills the gap for that too.
Before anyone asks that other thing in the floor with the screen is an AIC or Auxiliary Idle Controller. It serves several fuctions one of which I do not need. For one it allows you to set the idle at any RPM you want so you can keep the exhaust temeratures up and prevent wet stacking and still get Cold or even Hot air out of your vents. Also has a charge feature that montiors the out put of the two Alternators and will Idle the truck up to a point where the output exceeds the drain on the system. All this used to be done in the old days with what is known as a "calibrated Stick". Yes! A piece of broom handle cut just the right length and shoved between the seat and the accelerator! Problem was you needed several sticks to get it just right for conditions. Now they make these fancy electonic ones. I call it my expensive stick.
With either of these you can idle the truck all day long without damage or concern. Without you can end up carboning up your engine or draining your electrical system. Worse yet sitting there for hours in the cold or heat stuck or something. Normaly these trucks idle too slow to put out much of either. A quick push of a button on that thing and its up to whatever you want it to be. And the final one thing it does (one I do not use) is to idle up to run something off the PTO. For instance a PTO driven Wench, Generator, Welder or wrecker spool or something like that.
Sam, you realy should get that thing back man. A man just needs a truck.
