Contract binding? Oh, that is rich. As a serving member of the USAF for the last 18 years, I've seen more service contracts broken than I can imagine. At the bottom of your enlistment paperwork there is a statement which states "This contract may be changed in part or in whole to suit/meet the needs of the military service for which you have enlisted" After joining the USAF as a Law Enforcement Specialist, I was made to merge careers with flightline security folks. Even though my "contract" says I was promised I would be LE only. Be very aware that you are and mean NOTHING to the US government and the needs of the military (all branches) WILL be met without regard to promises made.

barmandr what ya got your hat on for inside, hahaha j/k/ anyways as for the coment as being too smart for the military, i think u need to go back to school and learn what the military is all about. we have many carreer field out there that take great task knowledge and also book knowledge. do u think the pilots out there are just some stupid person that just hops in a 50 million dollar machine and goes for a joy ride. i dont think so. as for the becoming a crew chief i would never suggest it. i am a maintenance troop myself which doesnt fall under crew chief but am in the same micro management system that they are and i would honestly say that crew chief is not for the weak. long hours out in the cold and lots and lots of work. if that is for u then go for it. its just my opinion but i spend alot of time with the crew chiefs and most of em hate it.

I was under the same impression....

I am in 11th grade and am 17, I am enrolled in AFJROTC at my highschool and currently am a C\1st Lt. Since before I can remember I have always wanted to do miliatry service... However about 10 monthes ago I started going out with this girl( I know this isnt exactly on track but it gives backround) and I am not sure if satill want to because I love being with her. Anyswase it seems like for the past about 9 monthes i lost interest in joining up. But i took the ASVAB to see what could do andf I ended up getting a 99 on it which i was really superised about. I was estaitc (sp?) anywase i have been looking at the ARMY and the Air Force. I think if i go Army I will go from boot to Warrant Officer Flight Training, or Air FOrce I will go into being a Crew Chief. k anywase here is the qquestion. How do I make a decison if i want to do this. I think I do but my parents arent to hot about it. They dont belive I can get an education in the Military. SO what do you think you got any advice??? PLease have some advice. Anyone please tell me what you think.
Yo kenny. I say definately go for it! The military is THE best way to live and die by! Im joining the marines as soon as I do some college so im not just a grunt. I'm glad you're thinking about going through with the military! You stuck with the bs and it is going to pay off. Just remember, you didnt join jrotc for nothing did you? Make use of your connections (the sarge) and training and you'll be on the right path. Oh, I recommend marine aviation. Best in the world man! Semper Fi.

p.s. like others have stated, dont base your descisions on your gf. its not a good thing. High School girls are a dime a thousand! You still have a year left in hs, and things might change between you and her.

              see ya.

Thank you all for your replies!! I i am obvously still thinking about it, I had a friend who just went though MEPS and on his contract said that no matter what no matter what his recurter said it didnt matter. I do belive this TEst the ASVAB is dont on a percintiol score of a 99 or 100 % because when I went to the recruters they said i was good for any enlisted job. Thank you all again and please keep repsonding.!!

                      *edit*

To whoever started this thread, I appologize for my rant below, but, I'm not a fan of ignorance ...

On topic, do what your heart tells you. Only you know what you're feeling, and you're the best judge of what is right for you.

Without trowing a fit or explaining to you why this isn't mindless violence, what makes you think you even have a *clue* as to what is mindless violence? You're not even 16. You haven't even begun to see the world yet.

Mindless violence is what the Heussein family has done to the Innocent Iraqi people.. Thousands of them have been murdered. MURDERED...

And you're going to sit here and tell me that us going in there and kicking the crap out of them, and putting a stop to this, is mindless?

You my friend need to do some growing, and thinking on your own. Stop listening to the crap the media, and the schools feed you, and learn for yourself. Make decisions on your own, and quit taking everything you're told as fact.
I'm way too old for this ****.

Actually, if he is under arms (or "packing heat" for you civvies ) he keeps his head gear on at all times.. indoors or out (minus special situations). Of course, if he was under arms, why would he have his blouse off?

go for the army via warrant officer school, it will make you a totally different person, and take classes while your in there, and if you still havent gotten a degree when youve left you may be able to get the state to pay for your college if you sign up for th national guard, and then use your gi bill to pay for books and beer!

Well I guess I can chime in after 16 years or so of service.

Doing the job is great, I have loved that at almost every tour I have had. I have worked with some of the best people in the world too. It has been overall the best possible thing for me. If there was one thing I did not like its the politics. I don't have the time or inclination to explain it, but its when the REMF's get too involved in what the day to day working slobs do.

I retire in 4 years and will go back to school then, I did not even decide that till just recently. But as some others have said, going to school while active is nearly impossible unless you are support personnel. I personally would never have been happy as support.

The warrant program is a pretty good deal, I tried to transition into the Army to become one but I missed the window by about 2 years, I just found out about it too late.

Think long and hard about this. Try to take everyone elses input out of the decision. If the girl is the right one for you then she will still be there, as for your parents, mine were mixed so many years ago, my dad thrilled, my mom not so thrilled. In the end though I think she was proud of my commitment despite whatever misgivings she may have had.

                            Hope it helps.
That which does not kill us, cripples us for life.

My step dad said that as well. He spent most of his time working on C-5's and sometimes B-52s. He said every time he signed up for these "free classes" to "get his education while in the military" they would change the class times, or he would have to move, etc. He hardly got through one whole semester. He had to wait until after he got out before he could get an aeronautics degree.

Not true, if you really think your going to gain rank fast (because you are a natural leader) then go to one of the 3 military colleges.. if you want the BEST education then go to the Navel Academy. But, I'll tell you not just your normal person can get into the Navel Academy... *my brother just finished his 4 years there and is at flight school now*

you can go reserves, and they will pay for you to go to school.

and I'll tell your strait up... about the girl... don't worry about her right now, don't let her have any play in it... cause if you two really love eachother, then you'll know what's best for each of your futures. And if you really love eachother, then you'll be willing to let eachother go... HS sweethearts don't last... *most of the time* .... anyhoo... thoses are my 2 cents...
