    Question for parents

Heres a moral question for you parents out there:

Your son, now a senior in High School, accepted to his top three colleges has had plans to play in a Paintball Tournament for a little over two months. Every week me reminds you that on (whatever date) he will be playing in a paintball tournament with his team, and will be home around 8pm that night, after leaving at 5am that morning.

Your son has cleared his schedule, made the money to play, and is really excited. He still reminds you at least twice a week.

It's now a week before the tournament and your son reminds you that the tournament is coming up, as well as mid-term exams. He studies for at least 4 hours a day after school and work for his exams.

It's now Thursday and the Tournament is on Sunday. Again your son reminds you that the tournament, only now you think that because exams are on Monday and Tuesday(two each day), you don't want him to go. Despite the fact that he has clocked well over 30 hours of study time this week.

This was my exact situation and is the reason why I'm not in Long Island playing paintball right now! As a parent, would you have let your son play? And I'm serious about everything, including study time, and I was planning on coming home at 8 and studying until 12 or so.

Man that sucks. I'm sorry. I probably wouldn't have done the same thing in that situation, but then again I've never studied for a test in my life.

I'm not a parent and I know how they feel but..

I think it is totally up to you. If you think you did enough studying for your exams and such then sure they should let you go. It will be your own fault for failing if you didn't.

Yeah, hearing your side of the story, makes it seem like it was a tad unfair.

There's plenty of other time for paintball. You only have one real shot at school.

But its not like I have much school left. I've got a 3.7 GPA, First Marking period grade I had nothing less than a B+, its not like I really needed to work hard at school this year, espically when I've been accepted to my top 3 schools.

Tuna: I know what your saying, which is why I'm whining here and not to my parents...hell, I probably would've been back by now, already talked to someone who went today and hes home...grrrrr

                            School first, play later.
It's too bad that they "changed their mind", but you are still living at home.

I could post a book about why I feel the way I do, but will not because this is not the forum to do that.

Once again, it's too bad that they changed their mind, but they are the parents. I have a feeling that the other side isn't as "cut and dried" as has been described to us. Attitude, responsability, maturity are all qualities that can be negative or posative when parents make final choices in these matters.

I totally understand, I just don't appreciate being told at the last minute that I couldn't go. If two months ago when I told them that it was the day before finals they had said "no" I would've understood completely, but waiting until the last minute was inconsiderate, IMO
