Quick (MUCH more specific) Photoshop question

OK, I have a fairly crappy computer, and after installing and trying to load it, the following error messages came up, one after another:

"Could not load default gradients because the scratch disks are full"

"Could not load patterns because the scratch disks are full"

"Could not load styles because the scratch disks are full"

And finally, when I thought the previous errors were just bogus:
"Could not initialize Photoshop because the scratch disks are full"
    And then it closed.
    Basically...HELP!!!!

    Should i just uninstall/reinstall?

I've only got a 6 gig (partitioned) hard drive; on the drive I installed Photoshop onto, there are 160 megs left, and that's AFTER Photoshop has been completely installed.

**edit** if photoshop needs 150+ megs every time it starts up...I'M HOSED!!

i believe photoshop by default sets up the scratch disk on the partition the operating system is on. How much space do you have there?

well, if you finally are able to strat it up, you can specify scratch disks in Edit/preferences.
            sigs are overrated.

except my dad has like 2 gajillion e-mails and other documents and programs and stuff that he is paranoid of losing, and we don't have a cd burner, so it might take forever to make backups of everything... (at least, that's his theory)

yeah, BestBuy always have some sort of rebate deals. That's where I do most of my CD purchases. I also remember doing backup on computers with only 450 MB harddrives and one 3.5" floppy drives and only DOS.

Plus to soothe your dads paranoia about losing email and data, if you install a second hard drive you can specify to save the inbox to be held on the second drive so that when the day comes that you need to reinstall the OS (it will !!) you won't lose those precious emails, and spare space on your hard drive not withstanding all hard drives will begin to crawl when they become 75-80% full regardless of size.

Private rant: why oh why do people partition drives? given that hard drives are so cheap these days???

LOL, keep in my mind this was the *upgrade* at the time, from a 4 gig to a 6 gig drive, and anything OTHER that partitioned was unheard of. This #@^%@!#$ computer is comin up on it's 6th year now of pitiful existence.

I think I'll talk to him though aboot adding one...(how do you tell the number of slots left??)
