LOL, when I first saw that I wasn't sure what you meant... then, once inside the thread, I figured you meant "officers"... now, I'm not so sure again!!

Well if the cop doesn't show up isn't the ticket automatically overruled. I know in Alabama that is how it is, I am not sure in other states.

But if he does show up or what. Go in and say you understand the wrong in what you did. Explain to the judge that it was an empty parking in which there was no possible way you could have done any propoerty damage and that you have learned your lessen and will not do it again. And plead for it to be reduced to just a minor violation. If all that fails plead juvenile offender.

Was it private property? If so then ask permission to practice recovery techniques under adverse driving conditions when it is empty. Then go in and say you have permission to practice there.
It works up here in Canada for me.

Also don't forget about Points? Ex police officers who fight tickets for a fee. It will cost a few dollars, but it's better than having to bend over for the insurance companies.

anyway. i'm hoping he doesn't show up. i don't know if it's private property...its a parking lot, for a plaza with a bunch of stores in it. i was all the way in the back...closest obstacle wasn't closer than 100 feet....

any shopping center = private property

what kev said is a good idea, try to get permission...that'll help your case a lot, especially since it wasn't on state/county/etc property.

I would say to try and do what Kev said. Otherwise hope that the cop doesn't show up and you can get the charges dropped. I wish they still had that law in Washington. Now the cop has to be requested to show up since they were tired of cops having to take so many days off of work to go to court for minor traffic violations. Good luck man.

You think that's asine, last year my friend got a reckless driving ticket one night when it was freezing out and there was ice on the road in places and he accidentally spun the tires on his truck for a little bit as he was pulling out of the local grocery store parking lot.

cheetah: Well it was not your parking lot, and doing donuts like that, regardless of if it was empty or not, DOES constitute as reckless drivieng. So you are just going to have to go to court and pay the fines, or hope it gets reduced.

If I saw a young kid, in a firebird, doing even just one donut in a parking lot with snow on it, I too would issue a summons. Sorry, it just adds up, but its for your own good. Things go bad REAL quick, and when you least expect an accident to occure, they always do. An inexperienced driver on dangerous surface conditions spells trouble.

At least now you have learned one thing, to look more carefully for a cop before doing donuts! haha

Well lets see...giveing a ticket for a clear infraction of a law is "asinine"? Oh I see...

And so it would be ok if he was driveing by? or Maybe sitting there writeing a report? Or maybe he was on his dinner break?

And if there is no one on a highway, it's ok for you to drive on the other side???

i know..doesn't make me feel any better. i know i'm gonna have to pay the ticket, but i'm definitely not looking forward to 6 points on my liscence. he was sitting in the lot waiting for people to do stupid stuff...like me. he went right back to his spot in the back corner as i was driving away.

The officer could have been on his lunch break or any number of other things. If you see a kid do one donut in an empty parking lot, and then drive off. I don't see that as a reason to give a ticket. I know I'm not a Police Officer, but I would see that as a waste of time, and money.

Now it has to go to court, and take up the states time. for one donut, in an empty parking lot. Call me crazy, but I'm sure there is something better that the courts time and effort could be put to.

Just me though.
