will this work? this is not just an idea im throwing out i have alll the stuff put together and i want to kno what to expect b4 i go out tomorow. basically, i got a barbeque ignighter and it wouldnt spark, or atleast i couldnt see it. but whenever i put some metal near it it made a spark. also do i need to have a potato and the end cap in for it to work or could i spray some hair spray in the back with not potato or cap and will it ignite?

u need the nail for the bbq lighter and u should keep a potatoe in there so the hair spray dont leave out the barrel heheh ive had so much fun with those
*shot a potatoe threw a metal bucket and threw a door*

should work but u should try making the part where you put hairspray in a bigger diameter. We call it a chamber its twice as thick as the barrel.
try using a paper clip and tape it on the ignoter so it sticks out like right by the metal piece on the igniter and itll spark

WIKED HAS IT RIGHT, THE BARREL SHOULD BE MADE OUT OF 2" AND THE CAHMBER OUT OF 4"
            1. USE STARTING FLUID IT'S MUCH MORE FLAMABLE
            2. DONT BOTHER WITH AN ELEC. IGNITOR USE A PROPANE LANTERN STRIKER ( THEY WERE ALMOST DESIGNED FOR THIS, SO IT SEEMS)
            3. BE VERY, VERY ,VERY CAREFUL. THE P.V.C OR A.B.S WILL SPLINTER TO A MILLION PIECES. HAD A FRIEND WHO BUILT ONE, TOOK IT OUTSIDE TO SHOOT IT AND IT DIDNT FIRE, SO HE CAME BACK INSIDE SET ON THE COUCH (NOT SMART) AND IT WENT OFF AND SHOT HIS SISTER IN THE FACE; HAD TO HAVE PLASTIC SURGERY.

            BUT THEY ARE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ya you will learn from experience. practice makes perfect. after a while u will have mastered the art of building a perfect potato launcher. i could probably write a book on them now.

when your done scale it down a bit and make a marble launcher....but be really careful

The reason your sparker would not spark is cause its not grounding out and fails to have a electrode close enough (gap) for the spark to jump to.

I have a few friends that make 'Tato guns and ill pass on some wisdom.

If ya use PvC buy some marine fiberglass kits and form a protective covering around the breech end of the 'Tato gun.

Hairspray is an ok propellant. but try other stuff in moderation... ive heard good things about starter fluid. DO NOT MIX CHEMICALS

they also made a tato sized cookie cutter that cut the tato into the perfect size for the barrel and provides a very nice seal.

Most of all Be Careful , ive seen ppl get really screwed up around these things.

I laugh at your pathedic designs. Not only is it more dangerous (Expliding in your face...) but it is weaker!

Real men use compressed air powered tato guns. Just.. I think.. 70 pounds owns any of the other designs. We have a 120 pounds air compresser for our sprinkler system. But I also think that a N2 tank would work fine.. We just compress the air directly into the chamber in the gun, but It should'nt be too hard to rig somthing up with your tank. Just a 20oz CO2 blast would be fine I think. My feild rigged something like that up.. One shot. There was a car ( a bunker.. lol not somones car parked) in the middle of their outdoor feild, they shot at that, powerful enough to break the window.

                        Humm... high school.

My buddy and I used a metal pipe, electric lighter with a wire remote, and a lot of starter fluid... mounted the potato gun into his car trunk. We dented one of the school's metal doors that remains to this day.

I've since refrained from the misuse of flammable chemicals and materials.

As some one was saying before, your sparker is not grounding out...I made one like this and all I had to do was hold the nail and it would shock me, but in the process made the spark. But personally I like the lantern sparkers that use a flint....huge sparks, great ignition. In our ulimate configuration, we used the 4" pipe for the chamber and the 2" pipe for the barrel. My propellent of choice was Everclear....put it in a spray bottle and adjust it to as fine a mist as possible. (Also considered white gas, but never tried it) The other thing my friend and I tried that made ours pretty successful, was that we put 4 screws in the barrel, after we inserted the potato we would turn the screws in a little to hold the potato so we could use a bicycle pump to compress the chamber to about 4-6psi. And then crack it off....YEAH!!!

Have fun, but be careful....poor assembly can end in a bad result.

Compressed gas is just as dangerous, and can explode in your face just as easily as flammables.
