In this country We call it WildCatting! Many WildCat Round's have become Industry Standard's over the Decade's
.243 Winchester is nothing more than a .308 Win necked down to 6 m.m., 7m.m.-08 is the same cartridge necked to Guess What!!. This trend can be used with any Base Cartridge.
Another example is Parent cartridge 30-06 Springfield
Necked up to .35 caliber is the .35 Whelen, Necked down
to 7m.m. it become's the .280 Remington AKA the 7m.m. Express, Next step down is .270 Winchester, 6.5m.m.-06 This is a .264 bore, Now We come to the .25-06, and Yes there is a 6m.m.-06. This does'nt even go into cartridge's based on this brass and caliber's with Improved shoulder angle's.
Needless to say these are only two of Hundred's of possible Base cartridge's. The possibilitie's{sp} are virtualy endless. it's taken me over 35 yr's to gain the understanding I have of the Art of making ammunition that I have and I'm just glossing the top of it here.
Sorry for the Thesis! But You Did Ask.
