I've never started a fight but I have broke my fair share of them when I worked as a bouncer. I usually got a few punches thrown at me nothing that bad, except for one time someone hit me over the head with a beer bottle.

I've been punched in the face on two different occassions by the same kid but because it didn't hurt and the guy was smaller than me, I never fought back.
          Is that considered a fight?

Not from your side I'd say.

                Nope, I kick mostly.... J/K

People have to try very, very, hard to get me to fight them. Perhaps it's because of my martial arts background, but I'd just as soon ignore them or verbally take them apart until they go away.

I think you find that the people that fight the least are the most confident and have the least to prove.

On the few occasions when (usually drunk) idiots have taken swings at me, I've been effective at defending myself. I try to do just enough to defuse the situation. You never know when somebody is crazy enough to take it to the next level and pull out a weapon or something. It's best not to hurt someone's pride and make an enemy.

The only time I really advocate fighting is to protect people who can't protect themselves. Otherwise it's just a macho prick waving contest. A lose / lose situation.

Been in a few in anger and a few for money. :)

The anger ones were mostly when I was little, Jr. High etc. Not really fights per se, quickly degenerated into wrestling matchs. Money ones were the best though. Just get a group of guys, all throw in, go up the chart. Winner takes most. Quick way to make some currency. Still some semblence of honor and safety in those fights. You knew there wasn't going to be cheap shots, somebody's buddy wasn't going to jump in, the dude wasn't gonna grab a board and swing at you because he was losing, etc. If you were done you just tapped out. No shame no regrets. Grab a cold beer, some asprin and cheer your buddies on.

I think fighting is stupid as a kid and an adult. Maybe like 20-30 years ago, it wasn't that bad, and perhaps necassary. Where i grew up, people were to quick to pull out a knife. I watched someone get stabbed when i was in the 8th grade. I don't condone fighting. I'm the type of person that would do anthing to avoid fighting. I'll defend myself if i have to, but only if there is no other choice. Nowadays there are to many thug wannabe's that have to prove how bad they are and kill someone. Is it worth it? How much self respect are you going to have after you're dead?

I guess we all have opossing views of what you get out of it. I feel better to not have been in a fight then to have been in one.

                        So do I.

I'd rather avoid it if at all possible. But if someone decides to lay their hands on me or my family they're in a world of hurt.

I feel the same way. But I wouldn't gain anything out of it, but be saddened that I had to resort to it.

I was in a few during middle school. Now that I look back they were over pretty much meaningless things. Really tried to just avoid them during highschool. It just wasn't worth it since most of the time they would just degenerate into big brawls or someone's car getting vandalized or their house getting egged(you know, some childesh stuff). It's funner just to get together with a group of friends and toss on the gloves and mouth guards and go at it. Then you know there's not gonna be any cheap shots and it's all in fun anyways.

When I was in high school our Vice Principal would make the miscreants go into a wrestling room with the 16oz gloves and headgear and slug it out until the issue was resolved or until both kids couldn't swing anymore. Usually one three minute round was all it took as the kids got too pooped to keep swinging.
