    PS2, or x-box?

So what is your opinion on which system is a better investment in becoming a more entertained coach potatoe?

PS2 of course.... allows you to play your ps1 games and use most of your old stuff........ where the others keep changin the format to make it so you have to keep spending more and more.... also how long was the ps1 around compared to the different incarnations of nintendo and sega.... now how long b4 the update and goto the ps3... my guess almost as long as it took to go from the ps1 to the ps2....
and knowin sony... when the ps3 does come out you will probly still be able to play ps1 games on it.....

I think ps3 will be in really fast because sony messed up on ps2 for a couple things. They made a couple more errors than on the ps so I think it'll probably be a shorter time.

I say ps2. It has most of the best games for new systems. MGS2 is being released soon, grand theft auto 3 is out, gran turismo 3 is out, devil may cry is out, Final fantasy 10 is going to be released, etc.

          The best place...

The best place for getting release dates and such is IGN. They have so many release dates there, it's awesome.

I would have a PS2, but I spend all my money on paintball gear. It seems like every time you buy something else, you still need more gear...

Has anyone herd anything bad or good about the DVD player on the PS2? I was told that it does not work all that well.

so Footemps, what problems have you encountered with the DVD on the ps2. Is it even worth bothering using it as a DVD?

I have a DVD on my computer that works great, i just wanted a secondary DVD that i could hook up to my TV.

I got my PS2 last summer and have used it as a DVD player for the most part. I don't even own any games now (well, I worked at Blockbuster so I rented them for free) and have had no problem with it. It'd be nice to have a DVD remote for it (which they have) because using the controller kinda stinks. I've seen many hours of DVDs on it with no problems, my roommates have used it with no problems, and a DVD that did NOT play on my parents DVD player worked on my PS2. So, in my opinion, there is not a problem with the DVD aspect of it.

I say go with PS2, either that, or wait for Microsoft to bring out a fine tuned, bug free X-Box, and see how well it holds up. As for the DVD, I use my PS2 DVD all the time, from what I understand, its not the worlds greatest DVD player, but its a lower end SONY DVD player, which makes it at least a remotly decent DVD player, ive had no problems playing DVDs on mine at anyrate, its currently the only DVD player in the house.

The play quality of the dvd sucks on the ps2 though, the controller is a pain. The dvd players for comps are better.

The PS2 DVD player is low end, but ive seen worse playback on other cheap no-name brand DVD players, the low end SONY players (Which the PS2 has obviously) is still an OK DVD player, its much better than no DVD player, or at least than an extremely low end DVD player, thats my personal opinion at anyrate. As for the controller, buy a PS2 DVD remote for it, problem solved.

Hold on. I just saw X-box at the mall.

Before I was squarely in the PS2 corner. I had seen it, played it, and watched DVD's on it. The games were great so I was planning on getting one. Then I saw X-box.

OK. I was playing a football game (NFL 2k2 or something). It started to snow (that happens in GB) THE SNOW ACCUMUALTED ON THE GROUND!!!!!!!!!!!!! It wasn't like other games where there is just a layer of white on the ground, the snow was thin in some areas and thick in others. It was freakin awsome!!

I switched it to a basketball game. Very, very realistic. I could even read Shaq's Superman tatoo!!

If X-box comes out clean (i.e. with no bugs) than it will crush PS2 and GameCube. There will be plenty of games for it. After all, Bill Gates is the world's genius at marketing. Many PC game compnies are making games for X-box. Ex: Raven the creator of Soldier of Fortune and Star Trek Voyager Elite Force.

If X-box is buggy then it will be worthless piece of (insert your own explecitve).

                              Just my 2 cents.
