I heard the story on NPR. Some longshore men who were waiting to go to work were interviewed and claimed the police used excessive force. Of course maybe they did not want to go to work that day so they were hoping the protestors would prevail. I hope the police at least try and concentrate rounds towards the legs. Those shots were dangerously close to her eye....and no she does not deserve to lose an eye over the whole thing.

Well I wasn't there so I'm not going to say whether she deserved what she got or not. If she was blocking a ship that was holding supplies for the troops, then yes force had to be taken.


I will say some of you in this thread claiming anything anti-war is stupid are being ignorant.


I am personally opposed to the war and I did everything a 16 year old could legally do to voice my opinion (write to my congressmen etc). But now our country is at war I fully support the troops (and I still write to my congressmen) even though I do not agree with this war. Many people over in Iraq are my friends and family and I wouldn't dream of doing anything that would hurt them.

So before some of you start making broad accusations remember, not all anti-war people are pot smoking anti-American hippies....

And along the same line I can't remember the first or last time the USA went to war without a just cause. so in that case when there's war and america is involved I support it and the troops that carry my freedom on their shoulders. not being ignorant, being realistic

That statement is pretty funny. Did you know that General Grant said that the Mexican-American war was the most unjustified slaughter in the history of mankind (he was probably over exagerrating a little). He was not a General during the war as he was younger. I believe he was a captain during that particular war.

Now we did get to seize a bunch of territory from Mexico during that war. My grandfather observed, however, that Mexico is slowly seizing those areas back without firing a shot (throught immigration). In seriousness though blind faith is not good. This country did not become great by having citizens who blindly followed the mandates of the government. Even our government with all the checks and balances (which is a work of ever changing art) was formed through debate, strife, and suspicion.

Aaron, you are so right. She looks like a hagged out hippie in that pic, but if someone photoshopped a Mag in her hand, and said that those were welts from a paintball, most of these guys would be fighting to marry her!

Uh, I'm not sure I'd look to NPR for a unbiased report. But I hear what you are saying.

Free speech is one thing; blocking commerce is NOT a right. They were told to disperse several times. Instead, they decided to throw rocks at the police. All I have to say is this; protesters take away more rights than they "claim" they have. People need to READ the bill of rights, not "quote" from it. You cannot block traffic, interfere with trade, or trespass. And NOWHERE in it does it say ANYTHING about throwing things at people! This constitues a riot, which IS illegal. No one's "rights" were stepped on here; the protesters ceased being protesters when they became aggressive. Read the bill of rights, learn you laws, THEN tell me I'm wrong.
