    Keg Questions

ok, ive got this keg that was in a house my uncle bought.

its in great condition and still has the tags on it.

now im wondering a few things.

    1. what can i do with this?

    2. is it worth anything?

    3. if i take it to a liquor store will they exchange this one and give me a full one? (if i buy the beer)

    3. how much is that to get, if its even possible

yes, im 21 years of age, so im legal

    but i just wasnt sure

and, this keg has been sitting for 6 months or so, that make a difference? still looks new outside

    thanks folks

    Cliff

if i cant do anything with it, i think im going to turn it into a table, get some nice thick glass and put it in my new apartment.

Yea, around here its a $10 deposit for the regular kegs and $20 for the specialty sized tall skinny ones. reason is it tends to be these smaller ones that people do not return and they keep for thier home brew stuff. And they are used by microbreweries to keg up thier beer. So its more to encourage the return of these small specialty ones. And yes you can just take it with you and exchange it for a full one and they will not charge you another deposit. I always keep mine until I need to refill one. Keep that deposit on going so to speak.

From my experience, you can return it for a deposite. 6 months isn't that bad. I've left kegs up at school and returned next semester and gotten my deposit back. And if all else fails, you table idea is a great one. Good luck man. Drink on!

Only 10 dollars for a deposit. Man I wish it was that way up here. It will cost you just about 165 for a keg, 100 of which you get back in deposits but still. Oh and the price is the same at home at the Army base, maybe 10 dollars less, but still.

Yeah you can return if for a deposit but as long as your not in a college town you're looking at $40. I'd just keep it and exchange it for a full one. Make sure you have a kegerartor though. You'll have to put a deposit down on a tap too (if you don't have one).

Keep that keg!!! Like cphilip said, keep exchanging it out. You don't really get yours "refilled" they give you one that is already full. Down here in TX you can get a whole keg filled for like 45 bucks. Make sure to keep it in good shape. They won't take them back if they are too beat up from keg tossing.

well, i dont have a kegerator, and im not gonna spend 600 bucks for one, but maybe sometime down the road.

anyways, anybody know how much it is to get one of these mothers filled? -not filled, i just mean do i have to pay full price for a keg? or is it cheaper?

i can just go to the store and pay 80 bucks and get a keg of budweiser, including the keg deposit. is it the same as that? or is it cheaper since ive already got a keg.

It should be quite a bit cheaper. Like I can get mine filled with a good microbrew for about $40 or $50. Cheap beer is cheaper obviously. You HAVE to keep the beer cold though, lasts a lot longer. Packing it in ice will help.

well since i have nothing to do at work iI looked this up for you.

It gives you the price of a keg and tells you about the deposits. You should be able to get them waved since you have a keg. This store is in Illinois. So if I ever make it up there I expect a beer.

ahhh, what to do with the old skunk beer...

Play a trick on a friend take it over to his house at night. Pump the keg up really good and turn the valve on the spigit over so the beer will just run. Hide it in the bushes. Come back about 15 minutes later pick up your empty keg. The next day it sure will smell and there is no real evidence left. Or just return it with beer in it and they will dumbp it.

Yea the problem with Kegs is if you do not have a CO2 delivery system they go flat in like 24 hours. Cause those little keg top pumps use air to pressureize them. So you pretty much have to drink em all up in one sitting if you can. Or use CO2 to drive it out. There are some on the keg CO2 systems out there though but then you still got to keep em cold. The Kegorator does a nice job with both of those. Keeps fresh for a month or two.

Around here a regular brew will run you like 45-50 a keg plus deposit. Some kinds up as much as 65. Same prices for Microbrews but you only get a half size keg for that money. Like 15 gallons verses 7.4 or something like that gallons

Yeah. I'm still trying to find a cheap 3/4 fridge to use as a kegerator. Need for em to go on sale at walmart again. Or find a used one.
