Who saw that MTV Icon last night? Stupid Huh

This proves Metallica sold out. The commercials for were totally lame. Which means it would be lame, silly me. Avril Lavigne????????? Sum41??????????????
What is wrong with this world. I can't believe Metallica let them do that. I can cause they sold out. I will no longer say that Metallica is heavy metal.Their 80's stuff was.

Ya know, I'm sick and tired of all of you people saying that Metallica has "sold out"... You actually think they had a choice of who was going to play? NO! Just look at the anouncers, as well as the artists.. Sum41, Avril Lavigne, Korn, Bizkit, Snoop, Staind... (I can't remember the anouncers names at the moment, but the ones I'm thinking of were all "popular").. all of them are "popular" and chosen for their marketing value... I don't you see you doing what Metallica has done, going through what they have.. Multiple stints in rehab.. the death of one bassist, and another splitting... These guys are doing what they love to do, and if you think you have the right to look down on them because they don't meet some standard you've invented, or because they've evolved musically, lyrically, and artistically, then I have pitty for you, because you have NO clue what music is all about.
I'm way too old for this ****.

You can't do the same thing forever.

I thought the show was great. Performers from all styles of music, even ones that I don't like, coming together to pay homage to one of the greatest bands ever (in my opinion).

Anyone else think that the Jim Breuer thing was hilarious?

Evolving is when something gets better, not worse. I like 80's Metallica not 90's Metallica.

The Lyrics have gotten worse to Listen to Master of Puppets than Reload. If you can't see the difference than you don't know what music is.

Actually they can decide who plays and who doesn't the other bands need permission to do their songs. I know what the difference is.

You like the 80s stuff better. It's an opinion.
Metallica is and always will be one of the greatest bands ever, for what they've done and what they're still doing. So what if some pop star did some cover of it? How does this effect Metallica? What if you were in a band and you did a cover of Metallica? Same thing....think about it. It's not as good as Metallica did it, only difference is your band will probably never be known.

Lyrics have got worse? That's opinion too.

You're in 8th grade, you don't know anything.

Evolving in a biological sense, yes. But this isn't a science. It's subjective... so basically, it doesn't matter wether you like their new stuff or not, they have still evolved. Also, you're saying you don't like the Black Album? Came out & recorded in the 90's

Yes, there's a difference in the lyrics. Hell, there's a difference from Ke'A to Lightning.. You're too young to realize this yet, but as you grow, you mature, and you change, basically, you grow. You can't expect them to stay the same forever. You can't expect *anyone* to stay the same forever. Just doesn't work that way.

I'm not positive on this, but so long as you're not making money off a cover, you don't have to pay any royalties, and therefor don't have to have permission. And to my knowledge, none of the artists were getting paid for there time...

Youngins these days, think they know everything

Metallica rocked and Jim Bruer was funny, although I'm pretty sure I heard him do that bit before. Except for that, it was pretty dumb. I couldn't stop laughing every time I saw their new bassist, though, that hair just cracked me up.

You do realise that they are touring with Limp bizkit right? That proves that metalica is destroyed. Anyone who likes limp bizkit has no taste or respect for real music.

Squid is about the only smart person on this forum so far.

Have you guys actually listned to Reload the lyrics on that are stupid UnforgivenII? What happene to the long-haired, don't care what other people think, band. Listen to For whom the Bell Tolls. Musically they suck now to whats with all the wierdo squeaky noises on Load. They will never be as good as they were as long as they keep up this trend of Short-Haired, Gotta fit in with MTV.

I used to think Metallica didn't sell out but I really listened to their music and said "Hey what happened"

Yeah I know these are my opinions I opened this thread to see what other people think.

do you remember 3 dollar bill 'yall? that was a hell of a lot better than their new stuff. i actually had respect for them back then, they were different, and they rocked. true, it was 5 years ago, but when they play that on stage, it is still just like old.

now, think of this tour in a financial sense. limp bizkit is popular, no? with them bringign in a different fanbase, metallica has a chance to bring in new listeners. if they go up on stage and play "battery", or "seek and destroy", and people like it, guess what, more people are going to buy their old stuff, which even you know rocks.

they cut their hair, so what. i cut my hair, i guess i am a sell out. do you have long hair? do you know how much of a pain in the arse it is to drive with it in your face? wait, you don't, you are in 8th grade.

First off, Metallica rocked more than ever. Secondly, you dont need a band's permission to play their songs, just take a look at all the local bands that play bigger bands' music. Hell, take a look at Weird Al Yankovic for that matter, he's been taking songs from other people for years. Thirdly, why the hell does Metallica need to have long hair to be good???? And please do tell me how, when, where, and why did Metallica ever sell out. Get your act together.

You didn't do that so people would like what you make better. I would hate having long hair I'm trying to say they sold out, admit I'm younger than all of you and I know that.
Wierd Al gets permission from all his parodys think of all the lawsuits. Sure local bands do that but most of them don't get money from it and most of them don't put their songs on their local CD's that are actually made in a studio.

They sold out by doing everything most Alternative bands do short hair, bad guitar riffs, lyrics about nothing.

Don't say I don't know anything about music I listen to lots af different music Led Zeppelin their music evolved it got better not worse. I know this is an opinionated thread.

actually, i happen to enjoy the newish metallica too. its not the same as the old stuff, its called evolution of style. if you do the same thing forever, people will drift away.

Not always true, look at Megadeth. They were basically the same (execept for Risk) in the '80s as '90s. For proof listen to Hanger 18 and Return to Hanger. Yes they probably lost a few fans by not changing but not many, fans won't drift if the music is good.

I just watched it and it wasn't bad at all, Avril sucked but it wasn't as bad as I expected.
