i didnt say the r6 was uncomfortable, i said it seems less than the other two. which, like i said, puts it down for me, but these being the three bikes i was interested in, i thought i would ask and see what people thought.

insurance wise, thats a question for later, at the moment im trying to work on a bike, insurance payments wont be a big deal.

i didnt say ive ridden "alot" of bikes, ive ridden 3 or 4, none of which have been sport bikes, but does that mean i cant own whatever kind of bike i want?

    *edit*
i erased a bunch of stuff from this post because i dont want to start any kind of flame war or anything like that, but just let me say that is seems to me all the sudden i have to go on the defensive in my own thread, where all im trying to get is info. if it seemed negative, then maybe it should have been edited, it seems odd that someone with such knowledge would discourage someone who is interested in buying a sport bike, when you have no clue who this person is, or what kind of personality i have.

my "rant" about speed, what i meant to say, was that not having actually ridden these bikes, would i notice an overall difference in the 3 bikes as far as acceleration and overall speed. what im trying to avoid here is making a choice and then finding out a month down the road, this isnt what i wanted. what im talking about is the YZF, if i get it, will i wish i bought the CBR?

on another note, i got a call from the dealership early this evening, they are getting 2 new 2002 YZF's both black, but new. he said they were listed as the same price as the 03's but that i could make him a lower offer since these were last years. ($6,999)

my question is, what should i ask? i have no clue what this would be worth, like i said, new black 02 YZF, anybody know?

also, what should i ask for on these other bikes? i mean the CBR and R6 are around 8g's and the YZF is 7g's, so what should i REALLY expect to pay?

ive never actually haggled with someone over something this large, so i dont want to look like an idiot and say something way to low, and i dont want to pay out the wazoo.

because im all for spending less money, if the product will be closly similar.

im not trying to be an a-hole or anything, i just want to get as much info from experienced people as i can.

I know this is against everything else in your head, but look into used bikes. YOu can get some REALLY nice 900cc bikes for 400$ and they are only 2-3 years old. True me, you get a 600 I'll give you 3 months before you're kicking yourself in the nutz. I saw a 1999 CBR 929 RR in the newpaper with 2500 miles on it for 6000$ that's pretty dang good for a RR. Just something to think about. In the end it's your money, you should know what your doing

i still dont get this craze with the crotch rockets..... i can only sit/ride any of them for no more then 10min then i "have" to get get off because it is to uncomfortable.... all the wieght either on my ares or on my gut... and i have yet to find a tank that is comfy.... so crusiers all the way for me.....

now of the 3 you listed.....i would go with the YZF-R6 myself.... to me it just looks better.... is still a 600cc like the other 2.... even then overall perfomance should be about the same.... granted the gearing on one may allow it get up to speed a little quicker and one may have better brakes... but for street use that is kinda a moot point... very rarely if ever will you need to be rinding the bike hard enough to use it to its full potetional... granted you may have to ride it harder when mrs. liberial, i know whats better for you then you do, scoccer mom, in her giant suv going down the road yakin on her cell phone, applying makeup in the rearview, holding her coffee between her legs with no cover which is splashing onto her thighs, with screaming kids in the back seat that she keeps turing around to yell at, and in a heart beat if she ever hit a bike would calim oh they came out of nowhere and i never saw them....

then yes you'll end up using more of the bike.... my oinly suggestion would be to go with what is the most comfortable... go to the dealer ship and sit on one for a 1/2 hour or more.... get on and off countless times.... sit in the postion you'll ride in and go through the motions.... at least do that for 10-15 min... you would be suprised how different things feel after the intial hey i like that bit wears off.....

again myself i perfer the yzf-r6 of you 3 choices.....

but my arse, back and legs perfer my marauder.... at anyrate keep the shiny side up to what ever ya get....

To Heat, for recommending that he get a 900cc sport bike for a first sport bike, DID YOU EAT PAINT CHIPS AS A CHILD? The R6 is probably out of this guy's league and I guarantee he'll find nothing but trouble with a 929. I do however find value in your suggestion that he consider a used bike. If he doesn't have the riding experience yet, why not gain it and make the inevitable mistakes on a used bike?

To Virus, do you just like to contradict yourself? One minute you complain about how hard sport bikes are on your body, then the next you recommend a bike that is acknowledged by riders and publications to be the worst riding 600 supersport in the group.

To Clifio, You are absolutely right you can own any bike you want to. The problem with getting out of your league right away is there are a bunch of people like me more than happy to take your money sell you a ridiculous bike that you "need" and cry crocodile tears when you come in for repairs that you need cause you got out of control and then procede to bill the hell out of you. Now, the guy that is smart and gets a good bike for him, but then gets hit by the car that didn't see him we have a little sympathy for, and his bills are magically cheaper.

Once again, I will say ALL OF THESE BIKES WILL OUT ACCELERATE ANY CAR AND TOP END HIGHER THAN 90% of cars. Do you really think you should be zipping around at 150mph on something you admit you don't know that well? Of course a skilled rider will notice acceleration and handling differences, if they didn't exist there would only be a need for on type of motorcycle. What kind of crappy dealer won't let you test ride something you are considering dropping 8k on? (I've never understood this, with cars they really want you to drive it, but with bikes you gotta practically beg most dealers)

You want pricing advice? Price used bikes. You still insist on new, I usually shoot for 20% off MSRP and can get close or past. I'd think you could get past on a holdover considering it hasn't moved in a year. Check out cycletrader.com and you'll see dealers posting prices at close to this price. GET AN OUT THE DOOR PRICE, they love to tack on crap like shipping, setup, blah blah blah. Don't let them.

"if it seemed negative, then maybe it should have been edited, it seems odd that someone with such knowledge would discourage someone who is interested in buying a sport bike, when you have no clue who this person is, or what kind of personality i have" Sorry, but I can tell what type of personality you have, just by what you're looking at. If you had done your research you'd know what are good starter bikes, and have had a lot of these questions answered, BUT you want something shiny and fast and you want it NOW; which says a lot about your personality. I don't know if it's good or bad, I just see your type a lot.
As for why I'd discourage you from buying a sport bike.
          1. Least new biker friendly
          2. Most likely to be involved in some sort of show off attempt/race.(Coupled with inexperience this one gets fatal)
          3. Most expensive to repair.

I know, I know; you're an expert rider. Lots of people are. Sadly the only true experts are the ones that admit they make mistakes and learn from 'em. I've done my share of genius moves(left a Goldwing on a kickstand in hot asphalt and it went through and fell over) but I wish I had listened more to people that knew before I made some of these mistakes.

          Now I have some questions
Why are you so intent on having a brand new super sport?
Have you checked into the price to replace the plastics(those lovely little sides on a sport bike)?

Holy cow, giant post count ++

so you mean to say that on an 02 YZF i should offer 20-25% less than what they are asking?

              and 20% or so on a 03?

thats alot lower than i expected to pay, i figured that since a car you can get grands, on a bike you could only get a few hundred, like i said, never done this before.

i do have a question tho, as far as a 02 YZF is concerned, what do you think about them? it doesnt seem to be such a super bike compared to the cbr and r6. and if i can get it for +20% lower than asking price, i would be very happy.

im not an expert rider, i dont claim to be, however, im not a total moron.

why do i want a super sport, well, honestly it wouldnt HAVE to be a sport bike, at this point im just interested in getting a bike, i like the super sports because they are cheaper than alot of crusiers, they looks really nice, they have alot of power, which is a blessing and a curse, but like ive said before, im not a showboater, and i dont care what anyone else things about any bike i buy, i buy it for me and not for hoes to stare at.

AS far as price on the 02, you must consider that it will be 2 model years old in just a few months, when the 04's are released, so your price on it should reflect that. If you are content with the 02YZF and the price is right, I would say go for it.

On another note, in my street bike riding days, the CBR 600 was always a very user-friendly bike, and Honda always sets the standard in quality that the other manufactureres try to live up to. I have not kept up with street bikes for several years now, so I don't claim to know if this is the case with the specific bikes you are looking at, but this is my experience. I rode a ZX7 for three years and a CBR900RR for three years, and through the friends that I rode with, I have ridden a CBR600F2, GSXR1100, ZX7R, ZX7RR, Ducati 888, GSXR750, and others that I can't remember any more.

I have done my share of stupid things on street bikes and am smarter for it now. I know that there are only two types of riders: those that have wrecked, and those that have not wrecked yet. So, in my opinion, if you do not plan on wearing a helmet EVERY time you get on the bike, do not buy a bike. That said, be safe and have fun, some of the most fun I have had was riding around with my buddies, going no place in particular on a nice sunny day.:)

well seeing how he also asked which was more pleasing to the eye... the yzf gets my vote....

that is why i said that one.... maybe someone should read and reemember what the orignal post asked for......

though i do know a little about bikes..... well crusiers at least... here is what cliffo wrote seeing you forgot

"also, if you dont know anything about bikes, please tell me what you think of the way these 3 bikes look, i would like your opinions on just cosmetics too "

now when i took the MAF course here in MA that was probly going to be the closest i will ever be to to riding a crotch rocket..... them little nighthawk 250s were a blast to ride... after the course i started to consider the 750 version because it was actually somewhat comfortable.... even test rode a few along witht he other crusiers i test rode..... still ended up with my marauder in the end but the 750 nighthawk was up there in the running.....

All that i know about bike is that my mom wont let me get one, but I think the one in the middle (R6) looks the best. I dont like the body paneling on the other two, it looks like too much to me.
I throw newspapers for the OC Register, it sucks...

I am not really really into sport bikes, but usually the Hondas do everything well. Good power, comfortable, handles great. Everyone has a F4 because they are great bikes.

What I would do is see if you can test drive each one. Even if you just ride it in a parking lot, it's better than nothing.

Also, the R6 is the new Supersport racing bike, like the new CBR600RR. Since you aren't going to be racing, I don't think these bikes would be for you.

Again I'm not big on sport bikes, but it's another opinion.
