All this minigun talk made me remember something I saw a year ago, on CNN I think. One of those AC-130 "spectre" gunships was circling over a taliban encampment, un known to those on the ground as they wondered about the camp. These "spectre"s have a slew of automatic cannons that make jesse ventura's minigun look like a slingshot. Well, they waited for a truck to pull up to the camp and they opened up. Instantaniously, hundreds of rounds of 20mm,25mm,40mm, and 105mm shells rip over the camp and vehicles in seconds. So many hit the place that everything, including the little Taliban who were walking around, dissapeared in clouds of dust in the blink of an eye. The guys in the spectre pause to confirm what happened to the target when all of a sudden this ONE little taliban goes running out of the smoke and dust bookin' it down a path. The guys on the spectre halt everything when they see him and train every weapon on board to hit 'em. They let rip, with a slew of 105's I think, and this poor bastard is just consumed by the explosions. I felt sorry for the little guy but at least it was quick. It was like hunting birds with a uzi, but, whatever gets the job done. That was the craziest war thing I'd seen on the news since the first gulf war when a few apaches blew up a couple of our own apc's. Any body else see thison tv?

Also, if anyone ever gets around to making a movie set in David Drake's world of "Hammers Slammers", the powerguns would have to be cool. By his description of their workings, the darn things seem almost feasible.

I'd much rather see the big 20CM powerguns of the tanks...

oh and BTW the Hammmer's Slammer's universe/ series of books freaking rock. Check out The Sharp End and Voyage.

Oh, and my fav movie gun?

Kurt Russells gun in Escape from New York. Looked like a mac-10 with a huge silencer on it (which didn't seem to really work in the movie. Thing sounded like a friggin cannon!) and a scope? Full auto machine pistol with a scope? Sounds like a good combo to me!

                              No, sadly, there are not.
It's mostly due to the fact that mini guns require electrical power to make them make bullets fly out. This could be solved by carring a car battery, but that would add quite a bit of weight to your load, and also think of the weight that would be involved in carring around 5oo rounds of ammo. And, to boot, whe a mini gun shoots, the recoil and kick build up geometrically, and in the end you would be nothing more than a bullet-spitting top. Also the thing is that Mini guns need two batteries to work a peak preformance, but the effects I described before are from using only one battery to power the gun.

As for my favorite gun, what about the one that O.J. Simpson pulled out of his pocket in the Naked Gun 2 ans 1/2? He build a cannon out of parts from his pocket! LOL.
And, who could forget the UMP that they used in the car chase scene from the Matrix Reloaded? Those babies can be chambered to use the venerable .45ACP round.
