Yup, once a super volcano blows... we're all screwed. The question is: When.Originally posted by Willystyle21
That is my arguement for the idiots of the world (cough Greenpeace and ELF cough). We are coming out of an ice age. Hell scientists have proven this whole planet used to be one whole tropical forest, no ice caps to speak of ( well not like they are nowadays anyhow). Still a buddy of mine told me about the apparent supervolcano below yellowstone, sooooooo we are al going to die from nuclear winter anyhow. Well have a nice day.

The only thing the French have done right since WWII was to sink the Rainbow Warrior!!!
I guess running their little boats up to fishing vessels and trying to deprive fisherman of a way to LEGALLY earn a living, then I guess Greenpeace is a model of restraint!
As for ELF: Shoot them all. They are terrorists, arsonists and sabatouers. Spiking trees to stop loggers doesn't stop the corporation, all it does is horribly injure Joe Average trying to make a living.
I guess it is nice for all of those PETA/ELF/GreenPeace whackos to tell us how to live our lives since the masses are just to dumb to think for ourselves!
Excuse me now, I am a bit hungry and cold. I guess it is tome to put on that baby seal blanket and chew on some whale meat!

Then you don't know a thing about Green Peace. Read their own website and you'll be able to see. They not only advocate, but happily destroy property, detain shipments, and all about cause as many problems as they can to stop whatever they don't like.Originally posted by -Carnifex-

Letter writing campaigns and e-mail is one thing, and it is something that many Green Peacers do, but it is not all they do. They are also commit hundreds of acts of eco terrorism each year.Or better yet, why don't you kill yourself. No, really, die. Drop dead, don't leave a note, in fact burn your house while your little ego is stuck in a bench vice so that you'll also incenerate yourslef and everything you own with it. Because that's all you're worth. You're not even wirh thte time it'll take for the house to burn down, so just kill yourself. You're a waste of space. You are nothing, you always will be nothing. Yeah, I love that one. As soon as the enviro-hippies get wind that there really isn't global warming they change the definition so to fit the fact and then decry it as a major problem.Originally posted by Jonneh
I gave this exact same argument to my mother (who is kinda a modern hippy), about the recent hot weather we've been having, apparently global warming doesn't just make stuff hot stuff hotter, it makes cold stuff colder too, I guess they could have chose a better name.

I live in a state where the Ranier is set to go in the next 500 years, and that is considered imminent on a geoligic scale. Yet the last 75 years of weather tracking is all we need to prove that something is happening to the world.
on a side note, humans contribute 2% of greenhouse gasses yearly.minimag #1321

I don't delve very deeply into the subject, nor did I read the article that was posted, but I see no reason to disregard the possibility of global warming.Originally posted by Albinonewt

Also, why is it we can mock the French but not black people or Christians?"What we have to accomplish at this time is all the more clear: relentless criticism of all existing conditions, relentless in the sense that the criticism is not afraid of its findings and just as little afraid of the conflict with the powers that be."

Its global warming due to the ozone. That doesn't mean every single place on earth is going to get hot. The average temperature on earth is increasing, not every place.
Its messing with weather systems for one, so we are, and will, see more strange and unpredictable weather patterns. For instance, more frequent and violent hurricanes in unusual places at unusual times, hail and snow in strange areas, drought it unusual places, fish and birds getting confused on migration, etc.Comment

Fact is over the past couple of hundred years we have remained under the average termperature of the earth, and even with the slight (2 degrees or so) change over the past two centuries we're still shy of that mark. Frankly, the earth has had ice ages and volcanic phases without our interference, which is why I'm confident in saying that whatever global warming may be occuring it is almost certainly not a purely man made event. Plus, since the polar ice caps are still growing every year I'm willing to stake that the earth is not getting ready to boil quite yet, since the major fear with global warming is that the ice caps will melt and we'll all drown. Since the ice caps are about 50 degrees under their melting point, and getting lower every year, I'm not ready to panic quite yet.

The French have it coming.
And frankly, the French government has been very anit-American as of late. While I have no plans to actually do anything spiteful towards those cheese eating surrender monkeys, they have most definitly earned my disdain.Last edited by Albinonewt; 08-25-2003, 08:19 PM.Or better yet, why don't you kill yourself. That would be the French government, not the French people. Unless I'm mistaken, the reason for most of the bashing was because they didn't want their people to die in someone else's war, damn them for looking out for their own.
Go ahead and correct me if I'm wrong, I honestly don't follow this stuff too closely."What we have to accomplish at this time is all the more clear: relentless criticism of all existing conditions, relentless in the sense that the criticism is not afraid of its findings and just as little afraid of the conflict with the powers that be."

What the French government currently suffers from is Gaulleism. Charles De Gaulle was head of the French government for 2 year (1945-46) and then again in 1958. Without really going too deep into it De De Gaulle felt that it was France's posistion in the world to serve as a spoil between the two super powers, America and the USSR. And as such De Gaulle liked to be a thord in the side of America (since he felt America was winning, it was his job to frustrate America). Now, having said that De Gaulle did pledge to support America during the Cuban Missile crisis, but he did aim to keep America from dominating the planet (but he did not aim to defeat America, per say).
Chirac feels similiarly, but to a greated extent in some ways. First, he doesn't just want America to not take over the world, he wants us to fail. Second, Chirac is not near the man that De Gaulle was. Chirac is a scheming little man who has nothing to go with except his ability to obstruct. He lacks any statecraft and any vision at all.
Chirac was not interfering in the war for any lofty goal of preserving peace or saving lives. He was interested only in seeing America fail, and he didn't succeed.Or better yet, why don't you kill yourself. No, really, die.
