    RIAA sues 12 year old

Breaking News, Latest News and Current News from FOXNews.com. Breaking news and video. Latest Current News: U.S., World, Entertainment, Health, Business, Technology, Politics, Sports.

haha. of course they had no idea it was a 12 yr old girl when they issued the subpoena. the funniest part is the girl and her mom's ignorance.

"I thought it was OK to download music because my mom paid a service fee for it. Out of all people, why did they pick me?"

she's referring to kazaa plus. for $29.95 they take out all the ads... haha yeah but what about all the spyware they claim they don't have?

"It's not like we were doing anything illegal," said Torres. "This is a 12-year-old girl, for crying out loud."

haha. but we weren't doing anything illegal! why would they sue us!?

A $150,000 fine per song...thats a little extreme dont ya think?

But yeah...I haven't really been following the whole RIAA-Kazaa story. Why not just shut down Kazaa??? That is kinda funny that they didnt know they were doing something illegal.

the reason that kazaa is not shut down is because the company itslef i believe is not a US organized country, and somehow circumvent the us copyright laws.. or something crazy to that effect. like they (riaa) dont heave jurisdiction or something like that to sue them..

Also, kazza and other similar programs don't actualy have the files and give them to you like napster did. They just give you a program that allows you to share files with other people on the net. They have no controll over what is shared.
In the eye's of the law the people who are sharing the files are the ones providing the pirated files to the masses and in turn the industry turns to them to try and squeeze some money out of 12 year old girls.

Kazza is sweedish... RIAA can't do didly squat in Sweeden.

The bigest mistake the RIAA made was destroying napster. They should have aquired it instad. This way with a already well known internet brand they could play ball with the users. And at least recover some of their losses.

Personaly I prefer it this way.....

RIAA is a dinosaur and it needs to keel over and die.. which this recent attack is a sign of.... its a desperation move. Charge me $20 bux for a cd that cost less than 10cents in materiels to produce... WTF!?!?!? And the thing that iritates me the most about it is the fact that the vast majority of the profit never gets anyplace near the artist... it goes to those so called record executives..... yeah I want to pay into a fund to put some rich overpaid butthead into a new ferarri.... NOT....

I see the long term solution to this one as being smaller Lables producing lower cost CDs. So far as current CD prices go... get two cds or take my girlfreind to dinner while I try out my in car MP3 player...hmmm... decisions decisions.

The music industry has been trying for years to figure out what to do about internet sharing and every step they make is designed to cause an even larger problem for themselves.

They seem to think if they just dig their heels in some more we'll all come around.

            Keep dreaming.

I used to think the RIAA had some legitamacy in it's actions....but now it's just getting ridiculous.

I seriously wish the RIAA would just curl up and die because really, their scare tactics haven't stopped me, or many others I know.

The problem Shartley is that the cops pulling over speeders aren't selling anything, and the Music Industry is.

They're assumption that if they punch enough of us in the throat we'll by products from them again is not the most well thought out tactic I've ever heard.

Do they have the right to go after those that download and break the law? Certainly.

Should they? That's not so clear cut. Sure, it's a proper and decent thing to stop offenders, BUT, they're goal isn't to enforce the law, it's to sell CD's, and when you're trying to sell things it's not always a good idea to beat the customers over the head.

you guys are missing the point. the riaa did not target this little girl. they probably only had a name and address for her. y'know jay and silent bob stylie. the funny part is the family in question's ignorance. now if you wanna bash the riaa talk about their wonderfully friendly amnesty program.

btw did anyone hear that universal is slashing cd prices?

I could see how the girl and her mom didn't think they were doing anything wrong. Everyone looks at Kazaa and Napster as MUSIC sharing programs, but they are FILE sharing programs...WE all know this, but your everyday joe-user may not. And they may think that if they pay a fee to Kazaa, they can get all the music they want for free and are in the clear. They probably don't even realize that they are downloading files from other USERS, but rather a server. hahaha

Anyways, I don't know enough about the RIAA to know whether or not they are evil. So far, it just seems like they are trying to protect what is theirs. Funny how, some law enforcement agency hasn't tried to crack down on all this illegal activity. hmmmmm I wonder why. Just not a big enough offense for FBI to get involved?
