Wow, what a blast from the past.

My brother (langrage) told me about this thread

Consume, eh? Guess they ran outta five letter words lol

Haven't listened to their newer stuff, I quit around Nihil, I started listening to them very early when they were super-underground and didn't care much for their shift into mainstream.

Yes, mainstream. When Best Buy carries a bands album, they're mainstream.

Their absolute BEST work was done during the TKK collaboration period. Too bad that didn't work out.

Good to see Sasha & Nick are alive, kicking & doing well.

          Goose,

The new albume is "WWIII" - I was telling people to consume it... its sorta my own private tip of the hat to "They Live"

As for this statement "Yes, mainstream. When Best Buy carries a bands album, they're mainstream."

ER - uh - thats kinda BS. That would be just about every band except those who a) dont have a record label, or b) that record label is SO small that they cant seem to get national distribution. And for that matter - I found Angst in large chain record stores. So I guess that means some where between "What do you know Duetchland", "UIAOE" and "Naive" they became mainstream...

I would say that thier foray as MDFMK on RCA was the closest thing to mainstream they will ever see. They are, and continue to be a band that fills a niche genre on various independent record labels.

As for the TKK collaboration - that was really only for the Swine and Roses/Naive remix single. Good stuff. But they didnt really work much on the KMFDM albums together. However, Sascha and Buzz McCoy DID work together and called them selves "Excessive Force". Another interesting experiment - I kinda like some of thier songs.

"Jesus built my hotrod!" IMO Ministry albums went down hill after The land of rape and honey.

only song by M.L.W.t.k.k that I like is "sex on wheels" Other then that I'm kinda not all impressed.

hmm...Ministry (which if you have never seen live, watch for them...Unbelieveable!) is great, along with all of Al's little side projects. I still have my Acid Horse CD with the fake acid tab sheet And no band can be as perverted as Revolting *birds*. As for the others, I have heard of some and not others. Here is the list of what I liked outta your list

Killing Joke, Ministray, Skinny puppy, My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, Meat Beat Manifesto, the Pixies.

To me though, they are all a different. Take for instance the difference between Ministry and Front 242. Front 242 is completly digital (nothing but Synth and digital drums) and Ministry actually plays instruments.

This is all going back quite a few years (although I did see Ministry again last spring). I am a little more mellow now-a-days.

Though I will say...This makes me wanna go watch my video tapes of 120 Minutes from the early 90's

I've never actually been to a Ministry show. Have a copy somewhere of their live video "In case you didn't feel like showing up" somewhere. Worth checking out if you've never see it. Alot of musicians from Alain's side projects are involved; Nivek Ogre, Jello Biafra, Martin Atkins, William Tucker...
Must have been an intense show.

Honestly, I'm also not as impressed with Ministry's newer stuff. Seemed to lose something vital along the way. Hard to explain. Maybe just went a direction (more guitar oriented) I didn't expect. Their recent stuff is a far cry from With Sympathy. lol. Hey, that's just one man's opinion.

                  Roaddog,
Check out the album "Confessions of a Knife" by Thrill Kill Kult. "Daisy Chain for Satan" goes down as one of my all time favorites. Classic.

I'm not sure where that came from. I know it's been around since the early 90's when I first heard of it. I guess it was initially believable considering KMFDM's aggro-industrial sound opposed to Depeche Mode's 80's synth-pop. I think alot of people just WANTED to believe it was true. Made for an interesting story while listening to CD's. Depeche Mode (along with Morissey/Smiths, New Order, the Cure, etc.) experienced a backlash in the early 90's. KMFDM (and the other more aggressive industrial bands) seemed to fit the bill in the then "alternative" music scene.

                      Just speculation.

I have all of Ministry's CDs up to Dark Side of the Spoon. The Mind is a terrible thing to taste and In Case you Didn't Feel Like Showing Up, are my two favorite CDs. But again, if you get a chance, check them out live, there is just so much energy. I have seen then about a half dozen times since '90 and have not found a show yet that I did not enjoy. And for as MF this and MF that attitude they have one stage, if you meet them in person, they are a great bunch of guys. The last show I saw I interrupted Paul while he was on his cell phone (didn't notice he was on it) and he stopped his call, said hi to me and signed my ticket stub (small venues are great).

I do agree it's changed over the years. I mean hell, look at the difference between With Sympathy and even twitch, it's like night and day. Their new stuff is much more instrument driven than synthesized, but unlike a lot of bands that lose their edge over time, Al and Paul have the energy in the music.

amen, they are without a doubt the best "small venue" show i have ever seen. if it wasnt for the lighting storm during the last pink floyd show i went to ministry would be tops on my all time list. deffo worth more than the price of admission.

                            Yes My thoughts exactly.

I know this; however, you'll notice both bands peaked around that time and had the same thrashy dance beat. Conquer Your House was pretty much an anthem for both bands sounds during the period... both bands, which had a raspy, kind of lost sound prior to the collaboration (re: Confessions & UAIOE). Immediately prior, their sounds started getting good (re: Kooler & Naive). Then came Sexplosion & KMFDM's rise to mainstream.

So maybe you can see why I refer to their collaboration as a bit more in-depth than the remixes & EF project(s).

Just out of curiosity, how old are you, Webby ?

                              Excellent band.

If we're talking pure live-venue, I'm going to have to go with My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult.

TKK used to do two shows, and all-ages, and a restricted show.

                              The restricted show was... intense.

Goose - I still dont consider them Main stream - but Im not going to argue over it ;o)

                                I will be 28 on Dec 26.

I like ministry, but the only CD I own is the one with "jesus built my hot rod" - but its a great CD. Bill Rieflin from ministry has worked with KMFDM in the past and I belive added to the new album. Last i heard he was drumming for REM on tour.

As for: "only song by M.L.W.t.k.k that I like is "sex on wheels" Other then that I'm kinda not all impressed."

OMG - there are soooo many good things from them! Get the crow soundtrack and listen to "after the flesh" (whose lyrics were from thier older song "nervous xians") - if you listen to that song and dont want to jump out of your seat and beat people - then you arent alive!

I love nearly every album TKK has done - they go from kinda slutty disco trash, to a harder rock and roll and the devils sound.

On Ebay I have seen a CD called "Some have to dance, some have to kill" which was a promo cd that is like a "best of". But it would be a good start.

I wish I could tell you to pick up just one album - but I like them all so I cant.

I saw them live and they rocked, albiet they were sans the bomb gang girls. They were here this year and i missed them because it was easter :o(

But I got my KMFDM ticket for the 21st of october!
