    good question

you don't get easy assignments eh?
Ask yourself this...how much are you willing to give? What about your father? mother? guy down the road? It's all going to be different...almost everyones knee jerk reaction is NO! of course not. Personally I believe that it should be left to the individual, not the government to determine what freedoms they might enjoy. If you require less and wish to safeguard others...join the military, or your neighbourhood watch...or whatever
but to start tossing out civil liberties in as a fear reaction? strikes me as being a poor idea. Now I'm from canada so a little removed mentally and emotionally from the situation, but I do know it's harder to get those things we want than to give them up.

The US Constitution insures that we have both, freedom AND security. The 1st amendment confirms the right to assemble peacefully, voice our opinions publically, dissent legally, praise whatever God we choose, and print/publish all we want as long as nothing we do, harms another citizen.(personal freedom)

The 2nd amendment says we have the right to possess those arms that can protect the state and country and self. (personal security)

The 5th says you can not be coerced into testifying against yourself. The 3rd says US soldiers can not take over your home unless you desire it. The 4th says the govt. can not search you or yours unless they have a warrant and due cause. (security from govt.)

The 10th says:"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people". This means that YOU alone have power and voice over the govt.

Like I said, we already have freedom and security, guaranteed by the Bill of Rights. Granted, much of your rights have been trampled on, or misread by too many people (ACLU) and the results are laws that are illegal yet on the books and enforced. Only the people can change this by exercising their Constitutional rights lawfully (see above).
