Why don't I like the Gerber Gator and everyone else does. Hmm
So... I need a knife for work. Any suggestions?

Here is anoter vote for the gator. I have owned both the Gerbers posted and the gator is FAR more rugged. I had my gator for about 3 years and lost it and the other one for about 1 and killed it. The Gator was still going strong and I an a terorist to knifes and other sharp implements.Sig image must be under 20kComment

I'll tell you what, I second this suggestion. I've had this very knife for a few years. Its sharp as hell. It has a duel edge blade, with teeth and smooth edge. (That rules for ripping through stuff), and its a very tough design. Plus it has a very neat "carson" flip open finger nub that makes for unequalled ease of opening.Originally posted by doc_Zox
i really like the CRKT line
the Carson folders are really sweet
the 34 dollar M16 zytel is a good buy:

gator
Gators are nice. The action on mine was so smooth I was able to open it by flicking my wrist. *SNAP!* and it was open.
I used it for two season of wildland firefighting. I even used it to cut the battery cables of a burning car. Pretty much indestructable...
until my fathers rat terrier decided to make a meal out of the grip.
Only down side I can think of is that is a bit bulky.Comment

I own a Benchmade Mel Pardue limited edition combat folder. Granted, it is WAY too expensive for something that you are doing with a knife. BEnchmade makes perhaps the best folders out there. Check out their site. Again, it might be a little too pricey, but, you get what you pay for. Good luck.Comment

I own my fair share of knives... but my recomendation is to stay with one of these companys due to high quality and utility of their creations.
Benchmade- Basicly in my eyes the AGD of Knife makers
Spyderco- Alot more flashy... but insanly durable as well
Columbia River Knife and Tool (CRKT)- Truely Function follows form
Gerber- They do make some low ended models... but their true unilty knives cant be beat for the cost
AFTICA 4 Life! the low rent (unsponsored) AGD team at IAO
Team Sandbaggers: 2k4 Texball Champs of the world!
SFL Emag

hehe I was just going to post that!! Box cutters are the bomb, always razor sharp, never need to be sharpened, I carry box cutters at work. But I've been looking for a wicked sharp tactical folder for a few years now, without any luck. I need one that isOriginally posted by penguinepunk555

*under 50$ so it can be replaced if lost
*won't come apart, they tend to loose that darn screw in the hinge
*REALLY sharp
I'll pry take a look at some ckrt's though they got the right look, price and that special hinge screw that doesn't come undone easy...Comment

Heat, I can't say enough how good my CRKT knife is. It opens so smoothly with such minimal motion its almost a switchblade. The blade is extremely sharp, and after a year, still nice and durable. The blade is also the perfect size.
Plus they look really nice and although the handle is a tad thin if you have large hands, they are really comfy to hold.

AGD Superknife. Its a utility knife so it will work.
