God I've wasted pages and pages of posts when you said exactly what I mean in two little sentences. The reverse is also true about the soldier and the military. You can say, "hey I don't like the way the military is spending the money. I don't like the fact that they spend X on bombs and only Y on army housing." This is being critical of the military and not the individual soldier. The individual soldier has to make many day to day sacrifices (like being away from home/family/career for over a year) and this is even before the ultimate sacrifice that can occur. Not to mention the sacrifice of the families (my cousin is a marine pilot and I know that military life is really hard on the wife and kids). Because of that sacrifice that can be demanded of them out of duty it is our responsibility as members of the country to make sure their sacrifice is justified. This by the way is not an argument for/against Iraq since we are in it now. It is more a comment on why it is our responsibility to police our own government...

Or you could ask how those vets, or even those who did'nt go to nam, felt about the 58,000 servicemen and women of their generation who died in that war for no justifiable reason.
Or for a more recent event you could ask some marines or rangers, as patriotic a group as any, what they thought about the Clinton administration and its bungling and eventual withdrawl of the situation in Somalia at the expense of the lives of some grunts.
yet another one that completely misses the point...
