If something is supposed to happen here in the EST zone but we are in Daylight savings time which I think is +4 hours rather than +5 normal EST.... from Zulu reference time.... then what time is 12Z here actually in Eastern Daylight savings time? In AM or PM time that is?

Well I think 12 Zulu is 8 am here while we are in Daylight savings time but I was not sure. Its the DST thats got me confused and the + stuff and how its applied.
GMT or UTC = Zulu time.Comment

EST is -5 hours from GMT. If it's 1200 GMT or 1200Z, it's 0700 EST.
EDT moves the clock one hour forward, meaning it's -4 hours from GMT. 1200 GMT = 0800 EDT.
Confused? Try being 8 years old and looking at a true 24-hr clock (where noon is in the 6 o'clock position) and figure out what time it is.
That was my introduction to my dad's world of military time.

It is a little confusing but when you consider that we have changed our clocks too the time difference of 5 hours still applies...there is a period of time where the difference IS only 4 hours but it lasts for a couple of days but this normally occurs when we shift forward to summer time as we both put our clocks back on the same date.Comment

At least today it is!
By the time you read this tomorrow it will not be....

Someone said it.
EST (time we're on now) is GMT -5
EDT is GMT -4
1200Z is 7am eastern standard.
It's always a pain for me when the clocks change because I always forget and try to file flight plans for the wrong time. At least we finally got a clock showing zulu time in our airport's weather room.Comment
