I don't think any one of those units are better then the rest. Some just have better soldiers at a certain time then others. When i was a deputy sheriff i worked with a police officer that was a ex delta force, he was also a charlie ranger in vietnam (name comes from the book charlie rangers) i thought he was full of it till i checked his back ground He also clamied to have met richard marchinko. I have a best friend that is special forces, then the local game warden has a helper for his hunter safty school that was a seal in vietnam. i thought this was a buch of bull also till the local paper ran a story of his life two years ago for veterns day. he was on the team that they dubbed the dirty dozen of vietnam. they captured a nv flag on christmas eve i think. i didn't do research on this guy. i was watching the history chanal do a report on navy seals and here he poped up giveing a interveiw. . Basically my point is these guys are normal acting people till you make them mad. the only diference is that they will screw you up worse when they are mad then a normal person.

Family friend is a Chinook Pilot. He claims British special forces are extremely tough. He also said that the Delta force is extremely tough and only respect their higher ranking officers in the Delta Force. In other words if you are a captain in the army (which I think he is) the Delta Force guys basically ignore you and do their own thing.
Dont alot of SF act that way?

OK, you totally left out the Air Force's special operators. Combat Controllers. check em out, you will see that they are everywhere the US special forces are. They make large teams of SEALS COmbat COntrollers and DELTA and they go run around and kick butt.

          Thanks

          Air Force guy here, obviously

                AFSOC

Combat Control Teams (CCT) and AFSOC also has Pararescue (Pj's).I beleive the Air Force has a few more Spec Ops units but none I can remember off the top of my head.

USAF Combat Controller Teams (CCT) Combat Controllers (CCT) are ground combat forces assigned to Special Tactics Squadrons within the Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC). They are organized, trained and equipped to rapidly establish and control the air-ground interface and provide airmanship skills in the objective area. Functions include assault zone assessment and establishment; air traffic control; command and control communications; special operations terminal attack control; and removal of obstacles with demolitions. The CCT provide a unique capability and deploy with joint air and ground forces in the execution of Direct Action, Counterterrorism, Foreign Internal Defense, Humanitarian Assistance, Special Reconnaissance, Austere Airfield, and Combat Search and Rescue operations.

I would have to go with the Russian Spetznaz then the SAS, Mossad and Probably America's Special Ops groups, Starting with Delta force (which does exist, they took place on the raid in Somalia on Black Hawk Down),SEALS then Force Recon. But for all of these there are few differences. Elites Forces are Elites no matter how you look at it, the only thing that really seperates them is how they are equipped. Most Special Operations Groups train for all kinds of situations. The SEALS actually have different units for different parts of the world, each unit trains to specific parts of the world in order to understand language and customs of each country that they see action in.
                  Cheers!

Dude, your the idiot. Rangers are not only a special forces designated unit (check out the offical SOCOM website, they're listed there), they are in fact the first "special force". The Rangers can trace their beginnings all the way back to Reed's Rangers from the Revolutionary War, in which they were the first units to start utilizing guerilla warfare and survival tactics. In fact, "Rangers", were designated and used as far back as 1670. The Rangers were there in every major engagement since then, unlike some of the more trendy units like the SEALS.

Not to mention it's rather irrelevant to try and determine the "best" since they all do different jobs, as it was pointed out. You need a couple of guys to go it alone, behind enemy lines, to teach the natives to rise up against a regime? Call the Green Berets. You need anti-terrorism? Talk to the SEALS (backed up by the Nightstalkers). You want an airport taken? LRRP? Search and Destroy missions? Call the Rangers. Have you ever watched the Ranger challenge? Most soldiers, special forces or not, don't even finish it. You have to be strictly hardcore.

                                The Ranger Creed:

Recognizing that I volunteered as a Ranger, fully knowing the hazards of my chosen profession, I will always endeavor to uphold the prestige, honor, and high esprit de corps of my Ranger Regiment.

Acknowledging the fact that a Ranger is a more elite soldier who arrives at the cutting edge of battle by land, sea, or air, I accept the fact that as a Ranger my country expects me to move farther, faster and fight harder than any other soldier.

Never shall I fail my comrades. I will always keep myself mentally alert, physically strong and morally straight and I will shoulder more than my share of the task whatever it may be. One-hundred-percent and then some.

Gallantly will I show the world that I am a specially selected and well-trained soldier. My courtesy to superior officers, neatness of dress and care of equipment shall set the example for others to follow.

Energetically will I meet the enemies of my country. I shall defeat them on the field of battle for I am better trained and will fight with all my might. Surrender is not a Ranger word. I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy and under no circumstances will I ever embarrass my country.

Readily will I display the intestinal fortitude required to fight on to the Ranger objective and complete the mission though I be the lone survivor.

                                RANGERS LEAD THE WAY!

(and no, I'm not a Ranger...I've just always respected them. I would be honored to become one though.)
