Army Possibly Phasing Out M-16

The OICW is HUGE, but, the pics released are prototypes. I hear the final prduction version will be smaller and lighter. I think the military should start using SIGs or H&Ks.


The m4 is more practical, its alot shorter then the m16a2, but again, its an old design

I have fired a full auto M-4 before. It was converted to accept 9mm cartridges only. It was at the Pasadena police range where I took a firearms class through Pasadena City College.

funny my m-4 only fired safe/semi/3 round burst. but you know i could be wrong after all i only had it as my primary weapon for 3 years

oh im sorry i thought you were an intelligent person and would be able to think, that maybe i was wrong and maybe i didnt know what i was issued ,and that my life and the life of my squad, wouldnt rely me knowwing my gear front to back inside out, cause that wouldnt make sense..but then i realized your 15 and just dont know what you are talking about, maybe your just thinking of you CS m4's

big talk for a child, and there maybe other versions but military m4's(the ones that count as they are the basis for this disscussion) are safe/semi/3 round burst as the military has found fully automatic personal weapons offer no tactical advantage and will only deplete ammunition faster with less accuracy

I'm not in the military (would be, but I couldn't pass the DoDMRB tests . . . I take some medication that they don't allow you to be taking when you enter the military . . . oddly enough, you can be PRESCRIBED this medication by a military doctor once you're already in and not get a medical discharge ), but I can vouch for this. I remember hearing this from various military personelle before and from stuff on the history channel.

Also, p8ntball, I seriously would recommend shutting your mouth. Dansim's life, the life of his squad, and his military career depended on him knowing his gear inside and out. If he was issued an m4, then he was issued an m4 and you can't argue that, b/c if anyone would know as well as God that he was issued an m4, it would be dansim himself.

Also, I wouldn't call ANY device which could easilly tear you apart in less than a second, gay. I'm certain you wouldn't call the m4 gay if it was pointed at you fully loaded and cocked. All firearms are deserving of the utmost respect, even if they are of relatively poor design.

I think the army should start issuing MP5s instead of M16s, "the BMWs of submachine guns" the SAS calls em. Sadly though that will never happen.

When the Army went to maintstream M-4s, they were just shortening the barrel, and thrownig on a collapsible buttstock. They kept the same receiver group...hence it being 3 round burst. Since then, they have redesigned it, and produce the M4 variant with BOTH burst and full auto capability, depending on the model.
And, Somalia didnt teach us that the 5.56 mm round didnt stop people. You have better control with the smaller round than with the 7.62x39 round. AK 47s are NOT more accurate; read your history. They were developed by an nation that, to a large extent, had soldiers who didnt speak the same language, and werent very educated. They were designed to be rugged and simple to use, NOT accurate. This hasd been traditionally how the Soviets design thewir weapons. Hell, their sniper rifles are mediocre, at best.
The arym wont be giving up their M16s anytime soon. They are slowly changing over to the M4, as, like was previously stated, your standard engagement range has been drastically reduced. This is due in large part to the fact we fight mainly at night, and posess FAR superior night fighting capabilities than anyone else.
Quick story; a friend of mine was with 10th Mountaiin in Afghanistan. They had racked up so many kills at night, just merely walking up on ther enemy, that the Afghans stopped coming out after dark. We made them afraid of the night.
