It's called queen's opening. You move the pawn that would open up both the queen and a bishop to move. Then you basically target the one pawn that's diagonal from the king that both could target after one move each.
I'm not looking at a board right now so I can't be more specific.

Re: chess strategy
You can mate in 2... but I would not call these silly mate traps strategies, they are completely useless against someone who knows the game. Spend your time learning an opening.Originally posted by e mag

No... the Queen's Pawn Opening just means that you start off with d4. A bishop move could be played, but there are numerous lines that do not involve following up d4 with a bishop.Originally posted by vf-xx

The famous quick mates are "Fool's" or "Scholar's" mates... which are entirely useless.

Re: Check Mate in 2 moves
OK I will have to dig a board out but still don't see that in my minds eye. Reasoning being, as a knight can be moved out without a pawn moving but unchallenged will take at least 4 moves to check, so you have to release a queen or bishop and so a pawn will have to be moved and to get in a check position from the opening move of a pawn will still be 3 moves and that will only produce check not checkmate...being black is neither here nor there.Originally posted by viper_ssc

Check it out, there is most definitely a 2 move mate for black. 3 moves for white.Originally posted by MarkM
