Another one of those cases similar to the Spike TV incident. What is it with these people. Can no one say the name Rosa Parks without having to ask for permission? Anyways. Here is the link. Yahoo news

Re: OutKast being sued by Rosa Parks...
It seems to me that there is a big difference between saying the name and using it as the title to a song. I'm afraid I agree with Ms. Parks.Originally posted by RoadDawg

It's a song title. It may not even have anything to do with her. Maybe there are more then one Rosa Parks? It's hard to say. I personally think she's just trying to get back in the spotlight again.Originally posted by hitech

Re: Re: Re: OutKast being sued by Rosa Parks...
Yes, it's a song title. The authors of the song WANT people to think of THE Rosa Parks when they hear the title. That is what gives her a legal claim. I agree that she should be "protected" from that.Originally posted by RoadDawg

Im sure there are more than a billion people out there named Rosa Parks. Now of course in this situation they are talking about "THE" Rosa Parks, which may be true. Constitutionally though, its freedom speech, which in general could be a false character named Rosa Parks, or any one, so therefore meaning, everyone should be able (regardless of whether the person is famous) to step foward and sue OutKast for using Rosa Parks as the song title. Therefore speaking that every band/group who has ever had a name in songtitle, that so called name should also have the chance to sue that so called band/group for infridgement bs.
It's really gross how this system works, how you can get money in the most unreasonable ways. Hey im fat, im gonna go sue McDonalds, wait? What about every other Fast food restaurant, OR FOR THE FRIGGIN MATTER anything thats unhealthy for you. Hey lets sue animals too while were at it, because they have fat. Like WTF? Besides the common sense aspects with that situation what about the damn physicals factors to question the person suing someone.
Sorry I got a little off topic but after watching the JFK Movie anytime I have to talk about the U.S government, I get really pissed off because of how true and disgusting it real is.
(and im no hippie person, or someone who hates the government because im a punker or whatever u call them, I have viable reasons. =\)

no, theres a huge difference in suing mcdonalds for beign fat and suing outkast for basically joking about your experience--without your permission! McD's makes you fat because you eat there--thats your choice. Tough ****! OK made a song out of her story without her concent--not ok!
I support 100% her right to collect at least royalties off the songComment

Does that mean she gets royalties off of history books telling her story? I for one haven't heard the song so I don't know what it's about but still come on. It's a song. If anything she should target the movie "Barbershop" where one of the guys basically says rosa parks didn't do it for civil rights but because she was to darn tired to get up. Seems like non sense to me.Originally posted by Kevmaster
