    I'm 17, and want a better job

I currently work at Roundtable, making minimum wage and am only getting about 14 hours a week. I can't pay my car payments, unsurance, and gas with this. I used to work at Del Taco and made decent money, working 40 hours a week during school really hurt my grades, so I had to quit.

Anyway, I'm a senior now with a short schedule, and can easily work 40 hours a week.

But here is where I need help. I want to find a job that pays $7+, perferably something involving manual labor since those kind of jobs pay pretty well. But being only 17, jobs offering that kind of pay are very difficult to find.

Any suggestions or places I may have over looked?

I worked at a gas station 7 an hour off the books. Caddy for a private golf course, you will make atleast that, much more after you have been there a while and you do your job decently. Construction, atleast 10 an hour. All this off the books.

Hmmm...Only thing I could think of would be a retail store in a mall (they tend to pay more than others)or a fast food chain like Wendys.I worked there for a little while and they started me at $7.75 hr at 35-40 hours a week.
As for construction i'm not to familar with the labor laws in other states but I know in Florida there really strict on minors at the job site.So much so alot of campanys wont even give you the time of day if your under 18.Starting out your on the bottom of the food chain making only about $7.00-$9.00 hr.With very long hours sometimes six to seven days a week.

Well, I worked at Del Taco for 6 months, and from that experience, I can tell you right now I will never work fast food again. Even though I made pretty good money, it wasn't worth the rest of the crap I had to put up with.

I'm gonna try block buster tonight after work, as well as Wal-Mart and Target. Hopefully I can get a job in the back of the store or something sense I don't like dealing with people

you should look into whether or not the supermarkets around you have night crews for stocking the store. You generally get payed very well and its easy mindless work of course you have to be willing to work at night. I work a night job and staring pay was $8/hr it started off as the most godly job then we got a new crew chief who is a real *******....but thats a different story, heh.

                cheers

                  Telemarketing!

No really... I made 7.53/hr for sitting and talking to people. Some companies give you bonuses, too.

After OT, Bonuses, etc. My Bi-weekly checks were in excess of 1g sometimes.

without OT, bonuses, my base pay for 40 hrs was about 500-600 bucks, so if you (unlike me) have a life outside of work, you'll still be able to afford it. Easy work.

                      xrancid_milkx,

Find yourself a job in a sawmill, or any type of mill. Go and ask to fill out a weekend clean-up crew application.

Seriously, when I was 15 I got a job working weekends 7:30am to 4:00pm at a local lumber mill. When most people my age were making 8.00 CDN (minimum wage at the time), I got up to 13.75 CDN. The work was very hard, sweaty, dirty, and either extremely cold or hot, but jobs that nobody else wants pay pretty good. If your good, they might put you on in the summer full time, too. I got onto piling for a bit during summers, and other odd jobs. Plus, working early will keep you out of trouble... or you'll go out anyway and fall asleep in a pile of sawdust like one guy did (but he was family, so it was overlooked ).

I was able to do all you wanted, plus after 3 years when I left I had over 10,000 saved, a year of college paid, a car, and money set aside for another year or two of school. Plus, it helped develop a strong work ethic, and when I wasn't shoveling woodchips or using an airhose, I got to drive around forklifts - pretty fun for that age.

Don't go retail - most likely it will turn you into a slacker.

                      Good luck! Go mill!

But guys don't get tipped as well as the pretty young ladies do. Though thats with smaller restaurants, I'm not sure about the fancy ones...
