My job kicks arse for a 17 year old. I am a lumper. Friday nights, all night, until Saturday early morning.

I work about 12-15 hours every Friday night, and make between 150-300 dollars.

Whats a lumper? I work at a logistics (trucking) company, loading and unloading trucks with forklifts and electric power jacks. AWESOME job, but hardwork

I am looking for some form, any form of maual labor in a job. Those pay rather well but are hard to find around where I live.

Real quick though, I felt I should bring this to everyones attention. As you know I work at Roundtable, which most of you here would consider a RESTURANT (see where I'm going?)

So why oh why do no one leave tips? The biggest tip I have ever gotten there was $3....And that was for cleaning up after a party of 45.
          Sheesh

Take what you can get and do what you gotta do. Or don't get paid.

I use to make decent money working at Togos (sandwich place) around here, minimum wage (6.75) but I got all the hours I could ever want.

                    Dog...dont go to Wal-Mart. And here's why:

I'm 16. My cousin, who's 18, got a job at Wal-Mart. She told me there were openings, so I went up and put in an application. On the application, I marked the 'Under 18' box.

Two days into my training to work in the Produce dept., they realized I wasnt 18. WHAM! No produce. Gotta be 18. However, I was already hired, and they didnt want to lay me off. The -ONLY- thing you can do at Wal-Mart when you're under 18 is push carts on the parking lot. It's wet, it's cold, it's hot and muggy. And forget 7 an hour. We make 5.60.

My advice? Ignore my advice, because I was dumb enough to take this job and stupid enough to still be there.

I guess I got the only "good" retail job here...

I work at ShopKo (for those who don't have one in your area, think of it as 1/2 of merchandise and appearal a super wal mart). I was hired at 7.25 an hour for seasonal help last year. They kept me on after the season, but moved me around a bit. I volunteered to work overnights too, and that automatically got me an extra buck an hour. The cool thing about that is when I went back to days for school, the extra buck stayed. So I make 8.25 to unload the truck and work sales floor, while the others are making 7-7.50

I unload the truck 2-3 times a week, and help on the salesfloor about the same... Its pretty fun, mainly because the managers are actually people who help out when they are needed, not hide away in the office all day (like they do at some other jobs)... Need help with a carryout? they can do it. Truck not going so fast? They'll get there and help throw it a bit. People piling up on the registers? They'll be there.

Of course the downside is I have to work with some complete morons.

We hired a 16 year old girl for sales floor help like 2 months ago... She didn't look too bad (though a tad bit too young for me) some of my younger co-workers were giving her the eye. They find out she's already engaged to get married to a 20-something year old mexican guy. Right then and there I knew what her future was going to be. She was going to get pregnant, drop out of school, and try to make a life out of retail (which will be hard, because she is already a half-wit).

Last week she was telling everyone she was pregnant. I can only assume the rest of it will come true too. I called it!

Not sure how that helps you, but just felt like sharing

From what I hear, FedEX and UPS are rather well paying jobs. My bro was just loading trucks at FedEx and he was getting payed over $13.00 an hour (if I remember correctly). It fit's your manual labor requirement. Plus, the benefits are decent.

ok rancid, when they say restaurant, they dont mean some crappy pizza place. go find the nicest restaurant in town. get a job as a busser. the pay will be decent, and the waiters will split their tips with you. it also opens you up to a promotion to a waiter, where you will make mad scrilla. this really depends on how swank/expensive the restaurant. the more expensive the food, the more you'll make!

I'll look into Fedex and UPS, possibly even the USPS. But those all sound like you need to be 18 years old.

I am looking into bussing right now, I've put an applican at Black Angus, Mimi's, and a few other pretty nice resturants. I'll follow up on them in a couple of days.

*sigh* Payday is on the 20th and I doubt I'll have any money after buying my family there gifts $120 bucks doesn't go very far....Dollar tree here I come
