    b16a Questions.

I am close to getting a 88 or 89 CRX and I'd like to be like the other 2 million CRX owners a put a b16a engine in it. Some questions I have are how much should I expect to pay for the complete swap? For modifcations what kind of car do I buy parts for? (for example its a 88 CRX but the engine is from another car so do I buy the parts for that other car or for the CRX) Should I go with a hydrolic or cable tranny?

For wheels should I stick with the stock 14 inch size or go to about 17? I know that bigger is ussually better but I am worried that going 3 inches bigger is going to add some weight and add lots of that unwanted energy in the wheels.

How hard will it be to get fiberglass interior parts like dash board and door panels? Is there someone on AO that could custom make them for me?

Thats about all I got for now.

Ohh ya. How much should I expect to pay for a decent coat of paint?

My friend just got red paint for $500 from Maaco and it looks ok but not great which is expected.

Ignoreing the last comment... anyone have any ideas?

Honestly a comment like that only shows ignorance. There are plenty of well built CRXs and you obviously don't know what your talking about or your in a bad mood. There is a track in Louisiana where there are 3 CRXs that never lose a race.

check out www.flashoptions.com, they have everything you could want for the swap.

As for wheels, 17's are a little large on small honda's I'd say go with a 16" OZ or Enkei wheel, I'd only say get 17's if you are looking to get massive brakes to pack under them otherwise its just a whole bunch of useless rotating weight that will slow your car down.

Most good car audio shops can do nice fiberglass interiors, check around online for a respectable one and then check out some work they've done.

Paint, I spent 1000 for the paintjob on my 240sx with an SR20 swap, but it is super rich and looks like you could fall into it if I find some pictures i'll post them for you.

That is still alot less than I thought a nice paintjob would cost. I was prepared to pay $3000. If you find those pictures post them. Thanks for the help.

Devildog - My post was probably a result from waking up about 5 minutes before I posted and me being extrememly tired. What kind of car do you drive grease monkey?

Oh my lord, I see a b20 on their site for $499. It looks like it is in extremely rough condition. Are these prices right and are these engines in fully working condition?

well, currently being deployed out in the middle east i dont really drive anything but back home i have a few beauties waiting for me, one being my daily driver 89 cadillac fleetwood brougham, my truck which is an 82 chevy k5 blazer, which is sitting nice on 35's and a crate 454 under the hood, and my project car is a 1970 plymouth duster, which currently has no engine or drive train

and no, im not some old fart, im only 20 years old, and yes, i paid for and worked on all these myself.

                  Good luck and god bless!

454!? Dear god, I bet that thing hauls. I am not really a fan of older (or even newer for that matter) muscle cars. However I know that a 454 will put out MASSIVE hp (sometihng like 420) and plenty of torque.

The main reasons I am going with a CRX are the same reason everyone else does: cheap to maintain and upgrade, light weight, low insurance.

Being that I am 16 I really need cheap stuff right now. My mom did one of those performance driving schools and is now REALLY into the whole car thing. It is kind of neat talking to your mom about rebuilding engines. She just bought a Mini Cooper (not my first choice for her) but she really seems to like it. The only problem with all of this is now she expects me to have 2 cars (track car and daily driver). She obviously has forgotten about how tight money can be when your 16, combine that with the fact that it is very hard to get a job now and that leaves me with very little options for cars.

ANYWAY, does anyone know if Car Toys does fiber glass?

Sorry the price on that was wrong, it was a $3500 paint job, and yeah everything they have works. My friend just ordered a B18c from them. The engine was in good running order we had no problem firing it up.

Just some pictures of my friends CRX 17's and some nice street treads are great.

Paint cost is subjective. A lot of variables.

Woah why does his engine compartment look so uncrowded.

For my paint I want to do something kinda funky, I saw a green Ferrari at Texas World Speedway. It was kinda cool, it had a candy apple green with matching rims. My mom hated it but nearly everoyne there loved it.

I wonder how british racing green would look on a CRX?

If you get the hydrualic tranny you will be paying more. As far as parts go...if the part is for the motor..obviously...you would get them for the particular motor. All the other parts would be for the car. Civic/Integra suspension is interchangable. Depending on how good of a motor you are looking for and how complete...expect to pay 1500-3000. Keep in mind that you will need axels from the car that the b16 came out of. The stock crx axels won't work. Hope that helps

Yes that helped, I wasn't sure if the stock CRX engine used the same placement for things like air intake, exhaust, etc.
