If you wait till your needle reads E, you are effectivly cutting the life of your fuel pump in half. Fuel pumps are liquid cooled so by allowing it to get that low the pump is essentially sitting in a steamroom. I never let mine get past 1/4 tank for this reason.

I drive on average 100-150 miles every day (helping deliver papers). Since thats in town, I use half a tank daily. At least.
I fill up every night. Regardless of what my fuel gauge says.

If it gets to half a tank and I have money ill put 10 dollars in. If I don't have money the gas just lasts till I do. I have a 15.5 gallon tank and get about 9mpg city, so that tank empties quick.

Usually somewhere between 1/2 and 1/4 of a tank. The more gas that is already in the tank, the less money it takes to fill it up, so psychologically (to me), it seems like I am spending less money... but then again I fill it up more often. So in truth, I spend the same. But I do go out of my way to go to a cheap gas station in town. The local Mobil is $1.61 for a gallon of regular 87 octane. The cheap station is $1.50. Thus, I save about $1.87 on every full tank.

I am totaly dry (car stops running) on the therd line of the E, so I get gas when its on the second line.

I usually refill mine at 1/4 tank...especially in the winter. My new Jeep Liberty tells me exactly how many miles I have left until the fuel tank is empty...how cool is that?

me and my friend had to put a dollar of gas in his car because it was passed E, and we still needed to get home from work.

EDIT: Some girl I know who got a Vette for her first car didn't pump her own gas until Saturday(10th). She has been driving since October..

                          Makes me sick....

I fill my tank when ever the little yellow light comes on. I can usually go about a week and a half to two weeks before I have to fill up. Even with the light on my car still has plenty of gas left.

My friend drives a Blazer the gas gauge is kind of screwy. I don't know how many times we have run out of gas in the wierdest places. Last time we ran out of gas it was around one in the morning. We walked to the nearest gas station (not too far) and filled up a 2 liter coke bottle with gas. That was just enough to get the car started and too the gas station. I'm surprised no one said anything to us when we were filling up a 2 litter coke bottle with gasoline (well it was one in the morning...).

OH, come on guys...that's only a few months You can't bash her too bad, because at least she got out there and did it...

Maybe she always had guys in the car with her...who insisted on pumping the gas for her...

I filled up water bottles with diesel when I worked at a gas station. You really think we give a damn what you put that gas in? Just give us your money

Chevy never has been famus for its gas gauges either.

I know it's time to refill when my car hesitates for a few seconds after turning right. I guess thew fuel sloshes to one side, away from the pump. When it starts doing that, I go fill it.
