I talked to my Natl. Guard recruiter today, I think the lowest gt score I had was like a 107. He printed me a packet 6 pages long of the jobs I qualified, and thats just the natl. guard.

Im not sure I want to enlist in the Natl. Guard right now though, I mean Id love to, but Id miss my 2 last summer breaks in high school. I mean thats a lot to sacrifice for a kid, especially when its not necessary. Id love to do it though, just wish school wasnt so long.

I am currently serving in the Navy as an Electrician in the Nuclear field. I only had an 87 on the ASVAB, took the NFQT(Nuclear Field Qualifying Test), and passed, so here I am now! In Norfolk, VA...and moving to Charleston in a couple months to be an instructor at one of the Nuclear schools there. If you or anyone wants or needs the REAL info on the Navy, or military as much as I can offer, PM me, or AIM: magsonthemind

My plan is to get an ROTC scholarship(hopefully these scores will help). And enter a branch afterwards.

ASVAB scores have jack to do with ROTC. If you go air force you will have to take another exam called the AFOQT (air force officer qualifying test). You have to exceed the min scores on the quantitative and verbal section. There is also a pilot nav section that goes into figuring out if you will get a pilot/nav categorization if you so choose too.

DUDE!!!! Foster is the one I was talkin about. LOL!

Pansy?! Sure if you want to call someone who drives everywhere instead of walking because I have a car a pansy, then sure, thats me. (for you other guys out there) alot of the "young" Marines on Foster are not allowed to drive. he he. And I run around in my TT GTO all night long. This is exactly what I was talkin about. Lifestyle differences.

And, in all seriousness choose a job that will give you some training in theoutside world. Being an ariel gunner is cool but what can you do with it compared to being a pharmisicst or a nurse?
Listen to this guy for sure if your considdering the AF...

I am a Weapons Load Crew Cheif... (2w171 if ya wanna look it up) and well am really feeling the short end of the stick in viablility of getting a good job once I do get out of the USAF... I mean really where do ya use the skills to load bombs on airplanes in the real world? (aside from baggage handler for pam am)

any how for ease of use I will provide the list of jobs snot to take no matter what the AF tells you :P

Security Forces... Ugg nothing like secutity gaurd duty to make you feel usefull

Aircraft armament systems whatever... like I said... what ya gonna be when ya grow up? a baggage handler?

Tactical aircraft maintenance specialist... unless your DEFINATLY PLANNING on making working on aircraft a lifelong choice dont do this either... sure you get the chance to earn an A&P license, but if I have to work on another aircraft when I get out im gonna go nuts

actually for that matter avoid any aircrew job that dosent come with flight benifits... simply put you dont get paid any diffrently from joe office guy that gets paid to learn all the usefull computer networking place just to get out in 4 years and make 60g's starting when your left holding someones luggage.

simply put if ya go AF... go Non-er (non-mission essential personall... ie office schmuck) cause it dont pay to beat yourself to death making 22 year old F-16s fly with your 18 yr old coworkers for 12-16 hours a day; when joe office is getting 2 hour lunches and a hour of gym time during his oh so stressfull 9 to 5 paper pushing job pulling the same pay as you.

someone said there is a benefit to working a job like mine... but I couldnt hear them cause 8 years of working around F-16s is making me deaf

              Thanks for the plug, Ed.

But it is true, not just for the Air Force, but for any branch of service. There are a lot of good job in the military, and the training you get is free (Tech School, AIT as well as upgrade training) but, the lure of cool sounding jobs is great.
I guess the best way to think of it is like this: What would you like to do for the rest of your life? Then try to find to a job similar to that in the military.

As long as we're talking about training for a job after you get out, last I checked I believe nuclear engineer was the 16th highest paying job in the world. Something like eight of the top ten were different kinds of doctor, but after that it started to get a little more variety.
