    I have owned 2 dsm's a 95 talon tsi and my current 99 GST and my friend has owned 3 a 95 esi, 92 tsi awd, and a 90 awd. We made the mistake of buying them due to their easy upgradability but have had nothing but problems. As of yet my eclipse is up for sale, and my friend has sold all three of his. They tend to be all around poor quality cars, with problems that include;
    rattling from about every area of the dash
    grinding gears due to poorly designed synchros
    lifter tick
    crankwalk(caused by machining error in crank thrust bearings which causes the crank to walk and requires a whole new engine) *only in the second generation cars*
    windows are absolutely horribly designed
    door handles break off at random
    transfer cases in the awd leak
    blown turboes are a problem but only to those w/o a cheap turbo timer, or who do not allow their turbo to cool after even minimal boost

    we replaced my friends tranny twice in his daily driver, my first 95 walked at 40,000 and I had to drop in a new motor at my expense because mitsubishi will not grace us with a recall for their poor quality construction. Ever since I bought the car it was problem after problem and in my opinion not worth the risk.

    all my cars have been emaculately cared for and both of my cars were daily drivers w/ no mods. Please, do more research if you are considering a dsm. Check dsmtuners.com for all the info you could want. The poeple over their love their cars but all know the problems they come with.

      Im thinking of the inherent problems in most AWD cars... in addition the above mentioned ones. This is one of those cars that would be fun as a secondary car, but would get annoying as a primary

        In the end, a car is just a way to get from point A to point B. It is a means to allow you to do fun stuff. If you sold your paintball gun, which entertains you, where would you drive to? Better off just getting an economy car.

          Man, I read about that crankwalk stuff. Now Im scared. Is there a retrofit that I can have done to get better bearings before they start to go bad?

          I really like this car though..

            a 6 bolt motor is the only solution, the 7 bolts are what walk and they come in the 2g's the 1g's enigine is called a 6 bolts and do not walk. Other than a 6 bolt motor I know of no other solutions.
