"How is it charity when you pay taxes?

I paid taxes before I needed assistance, during and even after."

If you took out more than you put in, its charity. And thats forgetting all of the tax money it takes to support a infrastructure, national defense, and the bloated burocracy that had to be formed to dole out CHARITY to people.

I partially agree with Rooster. I just think he generalizes too much. You cant generalize all of the people on wellfare to be scum. But its true that a lot of them are scum. Its also true that many of them work real hard to provide for their families and just cant make enough.

By living in LA a lot of my life, ive known a lot of my friends to be on wellfare (or their families) and sometimes its a single mom tryin to support her kids. No she did not have those kids just to get a fat check from the government. Other times its a junkie who wasted his life and doesnt even try to work. People like that dont deserve a wellfare check and ya we should let them live on the streets and overdose. If I payed taxes I wouldnt want it goin to some overgrown banger who dropped out of school and decides the gov. can pay for his BS.

So my point is you cant generalize every person on wellfare into one category.

"So my point is you cant generalize every person on wellfare into one category."

Which at the begginning of his discussion Rooster said he was NOT doing. He said the ones that ARE scum, not that all are scum. His words where just taken in the wrong contexts and the debate was off and running.

I agree with rooster. Maybe not to the degree he does, but still. Why should I pay for a man to sit at home on a wensday afternoon and have a nice neighboorhood barbeque with his FOODSTAMP. If a person sits around and expects to live of the welfare of our government, they ill be darned if Im going to take that happily.

Not all people on welfare are scum, infact im sure most of them are respectiable people just having a rough time, but the ones that are, those are the ones who deserve no better than what they have.

I must disagree with you Rooster on it being charity. A great example is the US Military. We have many military families on Food Stamps because the Military does not pay our service men and women enough to raise their families. I for one will not tell the defenders of our freedoms that they may not have a family, would you?

That is just wrong. They should get paid way more than they do. I hear the death benifits are really bad too. I hate the way the government treats our service men/women and our veterans.

Typical of bloated burocracy. If you are going to piss the American tax payer's money away, at least divert money from charity programs and into national defence, so that they can pay the soldiers. They are spending the money anyways, at least put it in the right buckets.
