Maybe looked for a used Jetta or GTI, or a explorer or explorer sport.

Any half ton truck makes a great first car. Ford, Chevy, Dodge as long as they are below 60,000 and below $10,000 it would be a great deal.
Also if you want a light SUV tons of choices, all can be had for cheap and are a very versatile vehicle. Personal favorites, Chevy Blazer, Ford Explorer, Dodge Durango, Jeep Cherokee.*Imagine a big flashy creative sig pic that either involves a cartoon, paintball player, some stupid internet movement or symbol with my name creatively tied into it because I'm too lazy to make one and if you don't like it, get over it!
