Thats how I would work the system, too... Kind of a preview idea. but we're a minority. I wager very few others who download shared files have any intention of buying the album if they liked the downloaded content

It is a problem that should be stopped but the RIAA is not really thinking of good ways to stop it. In fact I beleave that they are making the problem worse.

What would you do to stop it? (not being an ***, just curious to see other options... I haven't thought about it...)

Why should we stop downloading... Its the same thing almost as letting someone borrow a book. Cause they ain't paying for it.

well tbh i never really felt too guilty just nabbing one song here or one song there. but if i like more than one song from an artist i do what i can to show my respect for their work and buy the cd.

I am in the stage of waiting for new cd's to come out. I like that brand new band and I was going to buy that cd but I am short on cash now. I stopped downloading a while ago. I do on for pic's and videos but other than that I am looking for other bands that I never heard before.

Materials are the smallest chunk of CD price. Imagine how much work a good artist has to put into making a cd. Thats why blank CD's are cheap, and music cd's are not. I swear, some people. I download some music, but anybody that things its right and should be legal is retarded.

                    2 quotes

"I saw a great quote in an article about file sharing this morning - 'the last time we had a law that made criminals out of 60 million otherwise honest, law-abiding citizens, it was called Prohibition. We changed the law.' Pretty much sums it up."

"Intellectual property is an artificial construct created by the government and protected through copyright and patent laws that are really nothing more than monopolies granted by the government to an individual. The whole notion that someone can 'own' ideas or sounds or words is absurd. Theft requires that one person gains something and one person loses something which is not the case with file sharing."

Listen to internet radio. Pay 99 cents for the ones you want to burn.

Here's what I do. Me and my friends (5 of us) buy a cd and burn it for everybody. Next cd comes out, the next person buys and burns. It goes in a circle and works just fine. Produce better music, and I'll pay the full bang.

Well Apple and some other companies are helping by offering cheap downloads of individual songs. Many of the people downloading music would rather do it the legal way then for free they just don't want to spend $10+ on a CD when they only want 1 or 2 songs on that CD.
